Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight and Find Your Path Back to Health
Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight and Find Your Path Back to Health | William Davis, MD
14 posts | 27 read | 3 reading | 7 to read
Renowned cardiologist William Davis explains how eliminating wheat from our diets can prevent fat storage, shrink unsightly bulges and reverse myriad health problems. Every day we eat food products made of wheat. As a result millions of people experience some form of adverse health effect, ranging from minor rashes and high blood sugar to the unattractive stomach bulges that preventative cardiologist William Davis calls wheat bellies. According to Davis, that fat has nothing to do with gluttony, sloth or too much butter: its down to the whole grain food products so many people eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After witnessing over 2,000 patients regain their health after giving up wheat, Davis reached the disturbing conclusion that wheat is the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic - and its elimination is key to dramatic weight loss and optimal health. In Wheat Belly Davis exposes the harmful effects of what is actually a product of genetic tinkering being sold to the public as wheat and provides readers with a user-friendly, step-by-step plan to navigate a new, wheat-free lifestyle. Benefits include: substantial weight loss, correction of cholesterol abnormalities, relief from arthritis, mood benefits and prevention of heart disease. Informed by cutting-edge science and nutrition, and numerous case studies, Wheat Belly is an illuminating look at what is truly making us sick.

#BFC photo challenge. My favorite fitness gear is this mission towel. I keep it wet as I walk to fool my upper self into believing it‘s 20° cooler. It‘s a life saver.

I‘m visual and thrifted the tagged title to inspire a healthy diet. Full disclosure: I walked 6.93 miles this morning (16,171 steps) and included breakfast along my path. Yep - a bagel ;)

#BookFitnessChallenge. #BFC @wanderinglynn

wanderinglynn Way to go! 🙌🏻 and thanks for sharing your favorite gear. 6y

dariazeoli I love bagels! Congratulations on that mileage! 6y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I‘m not sure what wheat belly is about, but I would imagine if the wheat is organic and non-gmo, it can‘t be bad bc that‘s what humans have lived on for thousands of years, no? Great workout!!🥇 6y
marleed @JanuarieTimewalker13 @dariazeoli I might have given up French Fries but there is no way I can give up a bagel! Especially if I walk to it! 6y
JanuarieTimewalker13 “bagel? What‘s a bagel?” Hahaha...I forgot who‘s ad that was. I love bagels🥯 6y
minkyb Yeah but if you walk 16,000 steps at the start of the day you earned the bagel! 6y
DivineDiana I need to investigate that towel and walking for a bagel! 6y
marleed @minkyb It‘s so easy for me to justify food when I walk to it! 6y
marleed @DivineDiana Oh my gosh, those towels are little miracles. I never notice anyone else waking or running with them. I discovered there use about 4 years back and now it‘s my constant companion. 6y
alisiakae My cooling towel is a life saver too! 6y

This book changed my life. There was a story about how a cardiac patient found that her #ulcerativecolitis improved when she went on his diet. I was intrigued & did some research. I‘d been med free for years but had lingering symptoms. I decided to go #glutenfree & the symptoms almost immediately resolved. Each colonoscopy I had after had better & better results. Now instead of colonoscopies every 1-2 years, I get to go 5 years. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trying this out on Libby. I‘m really interested in trying to go with a more natural diet - less to zero processed food.

Ashley_Nicoletto I strive for less processed foods and my dietician explained it best when she said to try to shop only the outsides of the grocery store. That most processed stuff is in the rows in the middle. I use this as my biggest guideline. (edited) 6y
Bookcation74 I found this book fascinating - not only nutrition wise but also historical farming issues were very interesting! 6y
Laura317 @Ashley_Nicoletto @Bookcation74 I‘m learning a lot. I watched The Magic Pill on Netflix, and it has me really wanting to eat healthier. 6y

Bailedbailed

I was using audio, and maybe that was the wrong decision. I couldn't even get entirely through the first chapter. I listened to the first ten minutes or so. The tone of the book was not for me, unless it was the narrator. It just seemed like it was full of body shaming, and that's not what I was looking for. I couldn't sit through hours of that tone, so I #bailed.

For years I suffered from horrible headaches that were close to debilitating. I went to a dentist about TMJ, an ENT for my sinuses, and even a neurologist who said I didn't need an MRI, and just prescribed scary drugs instead that I never did take. One day on a whim I literally went cold turkey on gluten and it changed my life. I read this book around the same time and it made a lot of sense. So I suppose for me, gluten is #toxic #augustgrrrl

eanderson It's crazy what complex carbs and gluten do to the body. 7y
Cinfhen You pretty much summed up my digestive health! I was bad all summer with my gluten and I noticed the headaches right away....getting back on the right track is top of my priority list! Great post 🙌🏻💕 7y
Purrfectpages @eanderson it really is! @Cinfhen so many people still don't realize gluten can be making them feel so poorly. At least you're ahead of the game! 7y
Lchnessmnstr My husband was just diagnosed with a gluten allergy because of a skin rash but he has had chronic jaw issues that were written off as untreatable TMJ. We've just cut out gluten and I've picked up this book, here's hoping gluten-free really is a cure-all! 7y

Finally finished!! The author has me convinced...wheat is the devil! So many research studies cited to support the theory that wheat is either the root cause or an antagonizing influence on many health problems. It's the citations that help convince me. In honor of forgoing a wheaty dessert...I'm having cherries :)

MrBook LOVE cherries 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻!!! The wheat we eat (say that 5x fast 😉) isn't naturally occurring and would die without continuous cultivation. Same thing with bananas and seedless watermelons. Interesting stuff, isn't it ☺️? 8y
Librarianaut Very!!! 8y
