repost for @LeahBergen:
It‘s now February so that means it‘s time for one of our #PersephoneClub reads!
@CarolynM ‘s pick for us this month is Family Roundabout by Richmal Crompton. This is a casual buddy read; read and comment on each other‘s posts and reviews as you see them. We usually aim to finish by the middle of the month but that‘s not written in stone. 😉 And anyone is welcome to read along with us, of course!

This is the first Sparks & Bainbridge mystery that I‘ve read, so I was playing catch-up with the characters. That aside, it was a very enjoyable read. Set in postwar London, the titular characters are trying tie a new crime to an old series of robberies. The plot is pleasingly complicated, the history well drawn and the characters are interesting. The only bad news is that I now have a new back list to read, but I‘m looking forward to them.
I enjoyed this book about a “Rosie the Riveter” who is trying to find her path after the war ends & women aren‘t needed at the airplane factory. I‘ve always been interested in this topic — where did these women go if they didn‘t want to go back home? This one is a bit more soapy as it involves artists, a little scandal, and a hotel. Hazel was a little naive at times but I was rooting for her to find her way. This was my #BookSpin & #AuldLangSpine
Before this I was unaware of divorce ranches in Reno where women could live for six months in order to file for a divorce. The plot was not predictable, but it didn't have much of a climax and sometimes felt repetitive.

Here are my two suggestions for next year‘s February read. The first is tagged, I‘ll tag the second one in the comments.
This was a low pick for me. Interesting, but depressing. My favorite character was Miss Spooner, followed by the tiger, who should have eaten Richard while it had the chance. 😏
This isn‘t my copy(I read the ebook), but I certainly prefer the grey Persephone cover over this artwork. The photo depicts tea harvesting in 1945.
