Meet Me in Monaco | Hazel Gaynor, Heather Webb

I enjoyed this historical fiction tale about two “ordinary” people - a French perfumer and a British photographer - caught up in the excitement and glamour of Grace Kelly‘s marriage to Prince Rainier in 1956. The details of the craziness surrounding the wedding were fascinating. I also enjoyed learning a bit about how perfumes are created. And the descriptions of the gorgeous Côte d‘Azur scenery made me want to hop on a plane to France!

JamieArc I really enjoyed this one too. I read it on the plane home from Marseille 😊 2d
julieclair @JamieArc What a great place to read this book! The only thing better would be if the plane was going TO Marseille. 😉 2d
JamieArc @julieclair Yes! Very true! 2d

My first John Scalzi and I appreciated his sense of humor, very tongue-in-cheek. This was such a fun parody of Star Trek and sci-fi television. It gave me big Galaxy Quest vibes ✨

Oh So Oscar | Charlie Novak

We finally get to learn about Oscar, the brother who is often mentioned but always off traveling for work. He gets involved in a fake dating situation with Ilias that quickly turns real, w some hesitancy. Oscar is demi & has had bad experiences w partners wanting to move too quickly. Ilias is dealing w grief from losing a past partner.
There is zero angst or drama besides these two guys working through their trauma & figuring out their feelings.

TheSpineView Excellent! 6d

The Romantic Agenda | Claire Kann

I enjoyed this more than I expected, since I usually avoid books with a love triangle. But it was the pick for #lgbtbookclub and I'm glad I gave it a shot. I liked that while Joy and Malcolm were both ace, they had different expectations and experiences when it came to relationships and love. And Joy's budding friendship with Fox was very cute, their honesty and communication was refreshing. Overall this was a fun summery read!

Cinfhen I love summer reads that offer more than just romance 💘 sounds like a fun read 🤩 3w

This was a unique Pride and Prejudice retelling from a Muslim perspective. I was interested by the conversation around religious values and how the world, even including people within the same community, can judge based on first impressions. The characters were only inspired by Austen's and they could be extremely frustrating at times with their miscommunication but overall I enjoyed the journey.
Thanks for hosting @StayCurious ☺️

So This Is Ever After | F.T. Lukens

Such a silly idiots-in-love adventure exploring what happens after the final battle. Arek has fulfilled a prophecy to defeat the evil ruler but he's accidentally got himself stuck as the new king and has to find a spouse by his birthday. While pining for his best friend, he tries wooing the rest of his quest companions, hoping someone might show interest. This was a fun play on classic RPG roles & romance tropes, set in a super queer fantasy world

The Magic Fish | Trung Le Nguyen

This was so gorgeous and moving! Tien is struggling to come out to his parents, who are Vietnamese refugees and know limited English. He and his mom read fairy tales together to communicate within both languages. His story is intermixed with versions of Cinderella and Little Mermaid told through different cultures' perspectives. The art was just beautiful & I loved how the simple primary colors throughout were used to indicate each person's story.

I started this for the #TransRightsReadathon and finished last week. I really loved entering this fae world filled with magic and political intrigue. Wyatt and Emyr are such a complicated couple yet truly strive to understand each other better after they are reunited. The issue of bigotry (whether towards race, gender, or magical beings) was handled in such a realistic and powerful way. Definitely looking forward to finishing this duology soon!

I loved the aunties, characters were fun & relatable. I loved how much love they had toward each other.

This was a real feel-good book, atmosphere was hilarious & light and I had so much fun with this book.

Romance wasn't my favorite but it was okay.
