This one is between a Pick and a So-So. I love the second half of the book, but struggled through the first half. Some characters felt flat to me while others I adored. The execution of their conflicted emotions could also have been better. However, I loved the uniqueness and the variety of magic, and the plots is thrilling. Overall it was a fun read and I can't wait for book 2!

*My thanks to the author for the review copy

The premise is fantastic; a vigilante organisation steals the children of those responsible for massive crimes against the community through corporate neglect and coverups and includes the POV of one of the fathers of the children stolen.
Was all this it well-executed? Nah.
It reads like a mediocre cop drama towards the end and makes you despise every male character in the book and makes the women meh

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This books is amazing! I was looking forward to it thanks to some blogger friends raving about it but I was not expecting to love it this much! This is amazing! A definitely 5 star read for me and a favorite of the year. I‘m so glad I have the second one to get into right away. #arcreview #netgalley

Mehso-so

Any time there‘s a cast of characters at the beginning of a book, I worry. If I can‘t keep them straight through the narrative, it‘s not a great book! This one took forever to get through. It plods. But had such a great premise!

CaffeineAndCandy That is so how I feel. Very relatable 4y
Sace Lol. When I was a kid I used to love Agatha Christie because there was usually a cast of characters at the beginning 😂 4y

*AUGUST WRAP-UP*

Here are the 12 books I read this month. Thanks to Goodreads, for the perfect summary photo! Except Litsy cut it off. 🙁

There are 7 ARCs, 1 for book club, and 4 hyped. I liked all of these books and even loved a few!

What was your favorite book in August?

I think mine was Ninth House. Loved so many, though!!

Romina Garber takes the ideas of gender roles and identity, mixes them with South American Folklore, directly compares them with the issues many immigrants are facing today and delivers a masterfully put together book. See full review at VBC blog vampirebookclub.net #ya #folklore #vbc #arcreview

This book is a stunning, thought-provoking, accessible text on how we can dismantle racism and systemic oppression as allies, and why it's important to have conversations surrounding race. Very simple text, incredibly nuanced discussions.

Which team are you #TeamBourbon 🥃 or #TeamTequila 🐍 Homebody or Adventure seeker?
3.5 Stars ~ A sweet romantic read, the second instalment shows us Brandon workaholic and adventurous Lesa. That a chance meeting can change a couple for the better and that bourbon/tequila is more than a drink.
