Crime story set in Portugal, but it‘s not the usual holiday-read. A great set of inspectors (one autistic) and a good and clever storyline.

@TheAromaofBooks @Jerdencon Do any of these sound good for #TravelingThrills?

See All 7 Comments
Jerdencon I haven‘t read any - all sound good but my first two choices would be her every fear and the tagged book. 2w
TheAromaofBooks Her Every Fear is the only one of these I've read, but I actually would be totally down for a reread because all I remember is that I really liked it (and also legit checked my closets whenever I got home from work every day!) The others sound good, too, so whichever one you choose should be good with me!! 2w
bookandbedandtea @Jerdencon @TheAromaofBooks Based on your comments, especially Sarah's about checking closets 😬, I think we have a winner in Her Every Fear! 2w

I'll be honest: I started this book partly because the cover looks like an evil universe baby version of my friend Lisa. But then I could not stop reading and ended up devouring it in a couple of days. Best thriller/horror I have read in a long time. Spooky, weird, and full of possibilities. The very likeable main character is neuroatypical and goes about trying to solve corporate sabotage cases in unusual but effective ways. Hesketh's journey👇

LitStephanie is as interesting as the horrifying events he is investigating. As he realizes, sooner than most, that the crimes occuring are connected and civilization is falling apart, he has to figure out what is most important to him and what he will do to protect what he loves. It is a disturbing book that prompts one to think. Masterfully written and scary. 2mo
AmyG Well that sounds good. 2mo
LitStephanie @AmyG I am still thinking about it! If you read it, I hope you enjoy it. 2mo
Pruzy That is a terrifying cover 2mo
LitStephanie @Pruzy yup! Pulled me in. 1mo

from the mother of an Autistic daughter. She says what i cannot put into words-my son is a gift, one that has set my life path on an unexpected trajectory, & I am all the ricer for it.

IriDas I have two autistic children and RFK Jr can just—well, something that‘s not for polite society. My kids are wonderful human beings and they deserve better than a society that already treats them poorly. 3mo

ncsufoxes As a mom of Autistic child I see you & get you. Our Autistic son is almost 16. He‘s made our life more interesting. He‘s funny, smart, caring, compassionate, full of animal facts. Our 2 other kids have ADHD. RFK can suck a lemon. This man has no business anywhere near the department of health & human services . I worry about the long term damage that will be done to the Autism community. Luckily we‘re resilient & fierce advocates. 3mo

ncsufoxes Also Autism is not a tragedy & we are not broken families. Our kids are people that deserve a full & meaningful life just like anyone else. Also RFK should read the tagged book. Such a great book on the history of Autism & more. (edited) 3mo

Centique I saw a news reel with that dreadful man making that comment and i thought both, how incredibly stupid you are old man, and also how incredibly hurtful. Where has he been that he does not know wonderful, amazing, autistic people? Please pass on to your son that most of the world knows better 💕 3mo

In 1899, Jeremy is in Rwanda overseeing building a railroad when two lions begin killing the workers (like the Ghost and the Darkness if you‘ve seen the movie or heard about the true story). In 2000, Max, a young woman with Aspbergers, is looking for a plant that could be the basis for a new life-saving drug in the mountains of Rwanda. Their stories are told alternately. And how they are intertwined will come as a complete surprise at the end ⬇️

Texreader and in just a few words. I was pretty impressed. Both stories are very good, especially Max‘s story for me. The description of how Aspbergers affected her was so eye-opening, as was her botanical knowledge. There are some lovable (but realistic) gorillas 🦍 but also roving soldiers of a warlord threatening the people and the gorillas. In Jeremy‘s story, the descriptions of the lions‘ actions can be gross, but his story is good. Recommended. ⬇️ 4mo

This ibook s fascinating. The female main character is a scientist in the 2000s with Asperger‘s, so her parts of the story describe how she approaches the world so differently. For example, when she entered a room she only looked at the people‘s feet because faces are too chaotic for her to handle. I find her story so compelling. I‘m not quite into the 1899 part of the story yet but I‘m thinking the male MC may have a mild form of “aspies.” ⬇️
