#NetGalley #AudioARC So many good reviews but so far it‘s just a big meh for me 🤷🏼‍♀️Publishing Jan 3
Would work for #Booked2023 #DualTimelines

Megabooks I‘m first on the list at the library. I‘ll go in with low expectations. 1y

Mehso-so

I see I never reviewed this #NetGalley #AudioARC & honestly im already struggling to remember all the details. Basically a twisted family relationship involving adopted siblings who begin a heated sexual relationship in their youth and then the repercussions and fallout from their affair. Parts were great but it felt wayyyy too long & the buildup wasn‘t worth the climax ( excuse my pun 😉) #BorrowNotBuy #MoreMehThanYeah

Toad: A Novel | Katherine Dunn

#NetGalley #AudioARC

While this is not Geek Love, there's a certain beauty in the bleak, brutal writing. Toad is a slow-moving look into Sally's life as she navigates her way through a wide range of situations. This read is depressing and Dunn doesn't shy away from some pretty grotesque descriptions about bodily functions and personal hygiene.

The sadness infects all aspects of this book, but Dunn's writing is superb and unforgettable.

I really love Lydia Millet. Like some of her previous books, this one has that beautiful connection between humans and the world around us. The way she writes about nature and the impact we have on it, while also telling a story is so impressive to me.

This follows a lone man who moves and becomes friends with the family next door. The story makes you ponder our existence and what makes us as people good.

Reggie Have you ever read her Mermaid book? The last 5 pages is so bonkers but it goes along the lines of when you say she writes about the good in us. I loved that book. 2y
AllDebooks Oooh, I have not heard of her before. One for us? #naturalitsy 2y
Addison_Reads @Reggie That's one of hers I haven't read yet so I'll have to find it. 2y
Addison_Reads @AllDebooks Her books are fiction and dystopian based mostly, but she does focus a lot on the connection humans have with the natural world, and how we are destroying it. Her most popular book is probably this one, 2y

Just Like Home | Sarah Gailey

Pickpick

I've been a fan of Sarah Gailey since her novella River of Teeth.

This is a great gothic haunted house story that has enough originality to make it stand out. Like other similar reads, this book is a slow build as Gailey creates the creepy atmosphere needed to make the house come alive for the reader. It is more suspenseful than scary, but satisfying as an overall spooky read.

Annie1215 I was debating if I should get this one…thanks for the insight! 2y
GondorGirl Oh, good! I really wanted to read this, but I don't do well with scary. Atmospheric suspense I can handle though! 2y

I went in with very low expectations and ended up really enjoying this. I still wish she‘d go back to historical fiction, but her second try at contemporary is much improved!

When Marti dies, her will stipulates her daughters sell her vacation house in Maine and split the proceeds, but oldest Beck moves in and doesn‘t want to sell. Meanwhile Claire is living through a divorce after a surprise revelation. Youngest Sophie is in deep money trouble.

Cinfhen I listened to an #AudioARC of this one ☝🏼 I thought it was good but not so memorable 8 weeks later 🤪 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yeah, I‘ve really been enjoying books about family dynamics this summer, but I‘m pretty sure most will have run together by October. We‘ll see… 2y
