At my husband‘s behest, we visited a local small grocery that was serving samples of their Holiday menu. Yum! Everything from appetizers,fish,meats,veggies,sides, desserts. Such a fun & festive tradition. On the way, I read some of this book of historical fiction which I purchased previously at our local Indie bookstore. Every year my family and I go on a drive of the area looking at the best and brightest Xmas lights. We finish at a house which is. bananas about Christmas lights and they raise money for charity from all the people that come to see it. It‘s lovely BUT is this not the most terrifying Christmas decoration you have ever seen! My kids are traumatized 😂 #wintergames2021 #teamgamesleighers #selfiescavangerhunt #christmastraditions

An easy read on history of common Christmas practices in America, from cards to trees to nativity scenes. The historical facts felt accurate but curated and I wasn't sure if the history on the cutting room floor was for length or if facts didn't align with the underlying message. The publisher strove to make all traditions relevant and “OK“ for modern Christians, even those traditions with a pagan past.
