Instead of turning into a princess, when this little girl opens her dress up box she becomes a different woman from stories her mom tells her & pictures her mom shows her of real women who‘ve made a stamp on history. The way this is written invites you to play with it. For readers tell their own stories to listeners, to look up names they don‘t know together & find new ones, to dress up the paper dolls included at the end… #BBRCPictureBookLetterE

LibrarianRyan This looks like fun. You inspired me at lunch to look through some of my lists and start placing holds. My ILL guy is probably ready to kill me. 2y
IndoorDame @LibrarianRyan glad I could be inspiring. That sounds like an excellent reason to have someone cross with you😆 2y

…and I tell them that it matters—to earn one‘s own living, to work hard, and to consider oneself an individual, with rights and privileges and responsibilities—the most vital of which is self-realization. (P 183)

Women in Art features lots of women I was interested in learning about, but it was deeply problematic. It deadnames the only trans person included, uses vaguely ableist language when talking about disabled artists, and has a few smaller issues. I wanted to love it but it just didn't deliver. The parts that I liked were almost enough, but I just couldn't with the transphobia. It needs a sensitivity reader / edit, but as stands I can't recommend it.

TrishB Ouch…..thanks for your thoughts. (Ouch for the book not your thoughts!) (edited) 2y

3 fantastic 1950s watercolor prints of various dpots in Israel. I've no place to hang them, but I've got them.

ShelleyBooksie Did you find these at the sale.today? 3y
BookDadGirlDad @ShelleyBooksie I did. I was walking by a table with bins and one of these caught my eye. The book says there are 10. 3y

My office is in Catlett Hall at the University of Iowa, named after Elizabeth Catlett. It was super cool to learn more about her in this beautiful book. There is one of her sculptures in our hall, but I would love to see more of her work!

#MagnificentMarch Day 27: This picturebook biography is #AboutAnArtist, Georgia O‘Keefe to be precise. There are no details about Georgia‘s childhood since as the title indicates, this book focuses primarily on her time getting to know the island, and immersing herself in the beauty of the flora and fauna around Hawaii. Much to her “employer‘s” chagrin, Georgia painted what she pleased. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-kBr

Another stack of replenishment 😁! The top two are for the #ModernLibrary Display, and the other four for the #AutumnalColors Display.

Have you read any of these?!
