So...Apple TV is doing a Ghostwriter remake:

Naturally this 30 second trailer caused me to fall into a blackhole of googling the old show. Did you know Samuel L Jackson was in the pilot? Or that ghostwriter has an origin story that wasn't actually in the series but the writers said later?

LaraS Apparently Ghostwriter was a runaway slave who taught other slaves to read, was then caught & killed by bounty hunters with dogs (and therefore he has a fear of dogs), and his spirit went into the book they'd been reading together?!?!?! (whaaaaattttt).

that deserves to be a story all on its own!!

The father of Cthulhu dabbled in ghostwriting for Harry Houdini. Lovecraft had long been a contributor to Weird Tales when the founder, Henneberger, contacted him about ghostwriting for the famous escape artist. The magazine was in financial difficulty and Henneberger felt that “true” stories from Houdini would help sales. For $100, he churned out “Imprisoned With the Pharaohs" in less than a week and earned himself a big fan in Mr. Houdini.

Lcsmcat Gertrude Chandler Warner (Boxcar Children) isn‘t even a person. There is a stable of authors who wrote/write those books. One of them was in my sister‘s writing group in Chicago. 5y

Lcsmcat @LibrarianRyan My understanding from my sister was that there never was a Gertrude- it was just a made up name. But I admit I never researched it. One of my kids once had a signed copy of one, but I don‘t know if it survived. 5y

jmtrivera @LibrarianRyan I looked it up when seeing Martin at National Book Fest in August. She wrote the first 30 (ish? Might be 35) BSCs, then it was taken by ghostwriters. I also looked up Gertrude Chandler Warner once, ages ago, and I think it was really her for the first 19 Boxcars or so. I always find these stories so interesting! 5y
