This is hard to rank. The art is glorious but quite violent & sexualized. The story, as it were, is as well. In brief the Kabuki are a team of female assassins working for a shadowy Japanese government group called the Noh.

Very, very Kill Bill before Kill Bill existed but you can bet Tarantino read David Mack‘s work. Apart from storyline is lettering often intense & hard to follow on blackwork.

A beloved series released on Dark Horse Comics.

My library system is hitting it out of the park with this year‘s Community Read selections. Art Club is the MG pick and it is delightful! The artwork is colorful and fun. I love the story of kids forming an art club, exploring different styles of art, and proving to school administration and the community how art is important, too.

My #Bookspin and #Doublespin for March. Both have been on my shelf for a while now. I loved Jamieson‘s Roller Girl and Infidel is the second book in a trilogy.

Read 3 of my #ReadYourEbooks picks for February. Even if my Ms. Marvel book slot for March isn‘t selected, I suspect I‘ll be continuing with her journey.

The Department of Truth is a secret organization responsible for keeping dangerous conspiracy theories from becoming real — by the percentage of the population that believes in them. The art is dark, messy, and beautiful. As a fan of the X-FILES, I should be all over this, but despite the great concept, the characters are generic and the narrative is too familiar. Worth checking out if you‘re a fan of these themes. If not, you won‘t miss much.

TieDyeDude I enjoyed the first arc, but I'm not sure if I'll continue with the new one that starts this month. The story gets pretty twisty, but I'm not sure if it is twisty and good or twisty and I'm just caught in seeing what happens next 😋 3d

#FeelinTheLove Day 28: Despite the heated-oven ending where the narcissistic [ #Narcissism ] villainess supposedly got her comeuppance, I found no redemption in this tale, the creators had none to give. The reader is left to find scraps of those from the occasional vacuous kindness for the beautiful darknesses to sneer at in its vapid naivete.

Loved Ms. Marvel, issues 1-5

I think editor Sana Ananat wrote it best when describing this comic and its readers:

“–it was clear that you guys got it. By now you should have realized that this book isn‘t a marketing ploy, nor does it come with political agendas. It‘s just a story about a young girl maneuvering her way to adulthood, who also happens to reflect the changing face of America.”

The graphic novel written by Evie Wyld and illustrated by Joe Sumner was only ok. Evie remembers growing up in Australia where her shark obsession begins. Interspersed with shark attack stories this is really about family and loss but stays too much on the surface to be a moving, heartfelt memoir. I enjoyed Sumner‘s artwork.
