This presents a reimagining of historically marginalized experiences by bringing magic into the mix. Similarly to LGBTQIA+ gatherings being broken up by policing forces, the magic users in this book run secret broom races, hidden from the persecuting eye of the law. I greatly enjoyed this book and even more so after reading the end notes. Incredibly inclusive. I happy cried a little. #LGBTQIA #Magic #Indigenous #BlackExperiences #DisabilitiesRep

I really enjoy the way Lucy Knisley's nonfiction comics are told. Her work is reflective and engaging. This book in particular is captivating as she reflects on different aspects of her life to pinpoint where her love of culinary experiences came from. I love the illustrated recipes throughout too and now really wish she had a graphic novel cookbook out. #comics #nonfiction #food

This week‘s library haul, straight from the bench under the overhang while I wait for the unscheduled rain to pass so I can cycle home. I got one more from the Canada Reads Longlist, an Alexis Hall romance, Tatsuya Endo‘s early short comics, and the latest volume of YONA OF THE DAWN, which was a lucky shelf find. Just last night, I thought I should check to see if they‘d ordered it yet and put in my request. Now I don‘t have to.

I really enjoyed this series, more so than a lot of older comics I've read recently. Batman is settling into his role in Gotham when a villain known as the Reaper starts to terrorize the city. A vigilante from the past, the Reaper's return rattles Batman, as he is a violent, murderous reflection of our dark knight. Batman has to reconcile with his own self-imposed limits while also confronting Joe Chill in a fascinating side story.

TieDyeDude Some excellent art from the legendary Todd McFarlane. Also, always a sign of a good story when Dr. Leslie Tompkins is involved, IMO. 3d
AnnCrystal Classic art 🤩🦇💫. 3d

As the title says the events of this are a bit like origin stories for Nite Owl/Dr Manhattan. Nite Owl is a bit of a poor man's Batman. What is interesting in this volume is how he grows as a character with his interactions with Rorschach & others. The second half of this was absolutely fantastic, easily one of the best graphic novels I have read this year. Dealing with quantum realities, pocket universes, etc. There are times where you (CONT)

vivastory have to turn the book sideways/upside down (House of Leave style-minus the pages of footnotes). This was an immensely satisfying origin story on Dr. Manhattan. 3d
RamsFan1963 I've read the Before Watchman volume with The Comedian and Rorschach, I need to get around to reading the rest of them. 3d
vivastory @RamsFan1963 If you haven't read it, Tom King:s Rorschach is fantastic 2d

RamsFan1963 @vivastory I've seen it at the library, but I haven't read it yet. Is it the original Rorschach or the replacement introduced in Doomsday Clock? 2d
vivastory @RamsFan1963 I haven't read Doomsday Clock but it's definitely not the original 2d
RamsFan1963 @vivastory I wouldn't waste my time on Doomsday Clock. It was a good idea, and could have been an interesting sequel to Watchmen, but DC blew it. There was big delays between issues, then events were happening in other DC comics that affected the plot of the miniseries. The only good thing about it was the artwork by Gary Frank. 1d

A thoughtful exploration of identity, in the form of a beautiful graphic novel. Ash‘s story about finding their grandpa‘s secret cabin in the woods, and their attempt at starting a new life of their own far from family and friends had me shedding tears. 😭

A book so acidly cynical that your fingers smoke from flipping the pages. Can't put it down, tho.
