I started out wanting to like this one but it really got sloppy and all over the place. And I think there were about 25 different plots and twists, maybe more. Sadly, I ended up skimming the second half just to finish. 😬

What a lovely book with equally wonderful narrators! #audiobook

Gotta say though, this is the second book I've read recently where a character is wrongfully and intentionally committed to an asylum. May be fictional stories, but makes me wonder just how often this heinous act has been carried out. Far too often, I'm sure. And that is both infuriating and terrifying. 🤬😱

Not what I was expecting, but so much more. This one has a little bit of everything. Historical fiction, bit of romance, a magical bookshop...I really can't think of another book that incorporates all that in one story. I loved the growth that Martha went through. I've heard great things about the audio version, so you might want to give that a try. Although I did enjoy the reading experience very much.

Two storylines. In one, there‘s a lot of historical detail, and we see a woman whose brother has control of her life, so she continues to try and run from him to live her life on her terms. In the second, we have another woman on the run for different reasons, and a man who wants to make his name with a big find. The modern day story has a magical realism element. Answers are given, though evidence stays missing. It‘s another story. I liked it.

Over 90,000 people have rated this book on Goodreads and it has an average rating of 4.11 and I just don't get it, clearly I'm missing something.

The characters felt the same. The same voice, no depth, nothing distinctive about them. The two time periods felt the same which is ridiculous considering the generational gap. The plot is far to convenient and ties up nicely with big pretty bows everywhere.

I don't get the hype.

I had high hopes for “The Lost Bookshop” as I always love a bookish cozy read. However, all three of the main characters felt kind of bland and poorly developed. The main characters also made frustrating and very rash decisions, and the actual story itself fell flat.

bookishbitch Oh that is very disappointing. Cute cover too! 4mo

A wonderfully magical book about 2 women separated by decades. Opaline is in 1921 fleeing her brother‘s attempts to arrange her marriage. Martha is our present day narrator fleeing an abusive husband. They are connected by a magical bookshop which appears then disappears. I very much enjoyed this book and it felt like a warm hug to all those who love literature. Even the dedication was special. “TO ALL THE BOOK LOVERS”

It took me months to finish this historical, fatasy romance. There are two timelines in the novel. I figured out the twist well before the novel revealed the connection between the past and present. The writing was cliqued at times. I was not the right reader for this novel. 2 🌟

Such a charming tale! Told in two timelines, a story of love, loss, independent women, and rare books. With a little magic thrown in.

My book club read for the month - not what I expected but I enjoyed it very much. Loved all the little Easter egg references to classic books (and I probably missed loads too) - a nice cosy story.

The story is told from three viewpoints but two are happening at the same time and together. Opaline‘s story is absolutely heartbreaking, fortunately her will was strong. Madame Bowden is hilarious and the perfect touch. I‘m glad Martha overcame her obstacles and found her strength and Henry.

Got up at 6 am to the first snow of the winter here... Quite a decent amount too and at that time on a Saturday morning absolutely pristine and untouched apart from some fox tracks. Made some footprints with the doggo and now settled down while everyone else sleeps to finish this.
Simple pleasures.

This book about a lost bookshop in Dublin that magically appears and disappears seemingly at its own will has three different points of view and two different timelines. There's Opaline, who found the shop in the 1920s, and there are Martha and Henry, who found the shop about a hundred years later. Slowly their stories unfold and those are not exactly picture perfect stories.

I liked it, but some of the ⬇️
