Witches of Lychford | Paul Cornell
post image
Pickpick

A crotchety old witch who‘d rather be left alone, a woman coming to grips with the magical trauma of her past, and Lychford‘s new vicar who is experiencing a crisis of faith must join forces to prevent a threat of extra-dimensional proportions...

the building of a fancy new grocery store.

This was quick and fun, if a bit slight. Pictured is my purely fantasy #HeadCasting for the 3 leading ladies.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Dame Helen Mirren as Judith, Freema Agyeman as Autumn, and the Doctor herself Jodie Whittaker as Lizzie. 6y
DGRachel I love all three of those actresses, so I‘d watch the heck out of a show with them. 😊 6y
GingerAntics I love all three of them. Those selections alone make me want to read this. 6y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great fantasy cast! 6y
CampbellTaraL Oh hello, I too would watch this in a heartbeat. 😮😍 6y
JoRead If one of the characters made you think of Helen Mirren then it automatically goes to my TBR 😊 6y
JazzFeathers Sounds like fun 😊 6y
monalyisha You explained this in such a perfect, succinct way (which I totally failed to do 😅). Also, I fully support your Judith casting. 🖤 6y

Locke Lamora and Jean Tannen (portrayed in my #headcasting by Heath Ledger and Brendan Gleeson) are the #BestBookFriendship (remember what happened with the poison?) and book 4 of the Gentleman Bastards Sequence, The Thorn of Emberlain, is my #MostAnticipated of whatever year it ends up coming out.

#Riotgrams #ReadingResolutions

vivastory I've only read the first one, but I loved it. Need to check out the others. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @vivastory They are not quite as perfect as the first, but the worst complaint I have is they both could be about 100 pages shorter to make the pacing a little more snappy. In book 2 the boys get into piracy and in book 3 they get into politics. 7y
KimM Great series 7y

Gladstone‘s books are so diverse, so I did my best to make my #HeadCasting for Full Fathom Five follow suit.

Kai Pohala - Maori actress Keisha Castle-Hughes

Teo Batan (character from book 2 in an extended cameo) - America Ferrera just like before

Izza - Sennia Nanua from The Girl With All the Gifts

Edmond Margot - put Matt Lucas in a green velvet suit and you‘ve got the perfect Margot

Jace - Maori actor Cliff Curtis

Mako - Mako obviously

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Kevarian - Vanessa Redgrave just like in the first book. Cat - Elizabeth Debicki. 7y

This was my #HeadCasting when I read Nightside:

Patera Silk - young Michael Caine

Auk - Common

Blood (the crime lord, duh) - Vincent D‘Onofrio

Also Maytera Marble - Michelle Yeoh, Maytera Mint - Andie MacDowell, Maytera Rose - Helen Mirren, and Hyacinth - Rocketeer-era Jennifer Connelly

saresmoore Vincent D‘Onofrio! Even when he‘s not playing a bad guy, he‘s totally a bad guy. 7y
DrexEdit @saresmoore agreed! I'd watch anything he's in! 😊 7y
TK421 Vincent D'Onofrio was perfect as Kingpin in the Daredevil series. I picture him as any bald, imposing crime lord when I'm reading now.😃 7y
ApoptyGina69 My heart skipped when I saw Vincent‘s head! Then I read the context. Anyway, hell yes! 😍 7y

The Strangler Vine | M.J. Carter

This is my current listen from a recommendation by @Seshat ages ago. The narrator sounds SO much like Fassbender with his Magneto accent that I headcast him in the role of William Avery, and I think Mark Strong would make a great Jeremiah Blake, the Holmes to Avery's Watson.

So far this murder mystery set in 1830s India is extremely enjoyable. #HeadCasting #CurrentListen

MrBook Added! 😁 7y
Seshat Oooooh. I love "head casting." It is my second favorite mental game, after "what would I do if I won the lottery." 7y
Seshat And I agree with your choices! 7y

TheBookDream Your head casting and reference to Holmes/Watson has landed this on the must read. 7y
TheBookDream I didn't even look at the plot, just "MINE" 7y
DGRachel Narrator sounds like Michael Fassbender? SOLD! 7y
Avanders lol I reacted the same as @TheBookDream 7y
BeckyLeJ I love, love, love this book! So fabulous! 7y
vivastory Fassbender as younger Magneto is one of my favorite X-Men performances. I can't wait to see him in The Snowman 7y
rabbitprincess Mmmmmmmm Michael Fassbender 😍 7y
minkyb I can watch/listen to Fassbender do just about anything! 7y
Seshat Oh, yes! I agree. I'm so glad you're enjoying it! 7y

Anansi Boys: A Novel | Neil Gaiman
post image

I cast books in my head like movies, and as soon as I started revisiting Anansi Boys as an audiobook I remembered the cast I had in my head 12(!) years ago when I first read it.

Chiwetel Ejiofor as Fat Charlie Nancy. Taye Diggs as Spider. Ben Vereen as Anansi.

Anybody else cast books that haven't been adapted? #HeadCasting

MicheleinPhilly ALL THE TIME! I cast as I'm reading. A lot of books end up starring Cate Blanchett. ☺️ 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @MicheleinPhilly There's this series of fantasy novels that I started reading a few years ago when my wife was binge watching Grey's Anatomy for days on end and now whenever a new book comes out in this series the characters in my head battling it out in armor are still all the doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital. 8y
MicheleinPhilly HAHAHAHAHA! 8y

annkuch13 Love it!! 8y
HannaPolkadots I cast Elijah Wood for Frodo when I was about 7 and my dad read LOTR to us. When, about 7 years later, they actually did cast him for that role I remember being so grateful, because I wouldn't have to accept or get used to a Frodo different from the character I had known for all those years. 8y
Andrea4 This is still sitting on my shelf to read so I have no idea what it's about, but I'd watch the heck outta' that movie with that cast! 8y
