Finally finished this one. I found it a little tough to wrap my head around at first but I'm eager to read the next in the trilogy now. Solid 4⭐️.

Crocodile on the Sandbank was a pleasant discovery for #Foodandlit22 but the end blew it big time. Overall a good listen 3⭐️.

Library hold on Death on the Nile is about to lapse so I'm hustling on that one.
Tempests and Slaughter I may DNF audiobook because I'm just not that into it, even at 63%.

Crippled, recording the extreme impact of Britain‘s welfare cuts on its disabled population, is the kind of reporting that‘s so damning it should‘ve changed everything.

The UN has called the situation “a human rights catastrophe”, and this short book illustrates clearly, with both personal stories and data, that when a range of services are cut, it creates a cumulative effect in which the most in need will experience the greatest deprivation.

I liked this. It was very interesting to hear the cultural expectations on marriage, family and career but also the routine measures Keiko went into daily to create an appearance of "normalcy" in society while knowing that she is perfectly happy where she is in life.

Really enjoyed this. Probably my favourite from the author so far. Altogether creepy, unsettling, sad and desperate. The dual timelines were an excellent choice here!

I don't know if January passed slowly or quickly but as people are already posting their February TBRs, here's mine.

I'm struggling through Gideon still but it's starting to pick up and my only remaining goal is to finish it!

It's entirely possible that I may have already read my most disappointing book of the year. I look forward to Sager's latest every summer and I tried with this, I really did. The twists weren't bad but predictable and kind of cheesy. The slow, SLOW pace couldn't keep me interested. The characters were very bland. What I did like was the style...which I didn't understand until the end. But that was fun. I hope his next one's better 🤞

Hard to review. This book is clearly incredible, important and beautifully written, but I also can‘t say I ‘enjoyed‘ reading it. I like dark books but… wow. Having said that, the ending which I won‘t spoil was simple and cathartic enough that I‘d say it made it worth it. Now time to go read something very light and frothy with absolutely no important themes.
