A journey and about family. Also, a combination of genres. Hopefully, I can read the sequel soon.

Sarraounia was a witch & the ruler of a small queendom in what is now #Niger. She fought the French colonisers in a heroic battle in 1899. This novel, 1st published in 1980, should be better known outside West #Africa. It's terrific. The author is v. skilled at writing different voices. I watched Med Hongo's epic film of the same name recently (Mamani was the scriptwriter) - another forgotten gem.
Still from the film with Aï Keïta as Sarraounia
A short book, we are already leaving #Ghana for #Togo, #BurkinaFaso, and #Niger. #readingafrica2022 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
I LOVED this travelogue! Flavorful,comical,respectful!!!
Michael Palin, a British actor once part of Monty Python acting troupe began hosting a travel show for the BBC from 1989- 2012🌎 He vividly describes all the places he visited with rich details and a sense of pleasure #ReadingAfrica22

Total pick 😀
This is a book of photography of a nomadic people of #Niger, the Wodaabe. There‘s enough text to give a feel for their lives and traditions, and the photos are wonderful. It‘s amazing that we all inhabit this blue sphere yet our worlds can be so radically different.

Here‘s my latest update for #ReadingAfrica2022! In April, I read books for Libya 🇱🇾 Mali 🇲🇱 Uganda 🇺🇬 Kenya 🇰🇪 Burundi 🇧🇮. I think I‘m on track for the challenge, but there still lots to go. Africa is huge!
Let‘s see how many new African countries the author can fit into this book because now we are in the #CentralAfricanRepublic #CAR (I just learned Bangui is its capitol). I do feel like this author has tried to cram every thriller trope into this novel (even the Vatican), and pretty much covered nearly as many Saharan and near Saharan countries (plus a few European countries to boot).

This book is just hopping all over Africa. We are now headed for the #DemocraticRepublicofCongo #DRC. #readingAfrica2022 #Libya #Malta #Niger (I‘m omitting Chad because so little happened there in the book—just a brief stopover to catch a helicopter.) @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
And yes there‘s a typo in the above quote. The book is in serious need of an editor and proofreader.
We are now in #Chad! Still hoping I might finish this one tomorrow for one of my goals for #20in4 #readathon but I‘ve got a ways to go. I‘m at 73%, chapter 82 of 112. I‘m trying to make some progress tonight
