Her prose are lyrical and melodic, every word like an island breeze warm and rhythmic. A semi autobiographical coming of age story told in snapshots over the course of several years. The theme often repeated is the intense love/hate relationship between mother & daughter.

Going with a light, easy read this morning. My head has been all over the place. I received some very devastating news yesterday, my cousin was MURDERED! You know, you read about it, you watch shows, and hear stories, but you never think it's going to happen to someone you love. The saddest part is he has an infant daughter. 😭

Claudia Rankine is amazing, not only for her intellectual rigour in these essays about the racist structure of American society, but also for her open-minded engagement in conversation with white people—friends and strangers—on this topic. Her desire to understand racist viewpoints strikes me as a useful step in dismantling them, and creating a better future. #outstanding

Gaiman‘s fantastic worlds are a delight on audio and he‘s an expert interpreter of his own work. These two audio narration are #outstanding among the few I‘ve listened.
