This book is so beautiful! The story is incredible, and one that should be told more often. The colonial aspect is something that hit close to home, and the intertwining stories are just so poignant. Highly recommend this to everyone! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #epicreadsmadlibs #nounplace @EpicReads #readharderchallenge #poccharactergoesonaspiritualjourney @bookriot #litsyreadingchallenge #pocmemoir @jessplummer #LitsyAtoZauthors @BookishMarginalia

I listened to all 8 hours in less than an entire day. Janet explores her own personal journey, as well as discussing the experiences of those around her and the history of trans women in America. She examines race, class and politics in relation to trans people. Highly recommend!

This book slated my reading slump. Noah is a gifted storyteller. Read it!

Thanks to so many friends for recommending this one! Do yourself a favor and buy this audiobook. Trevor Noah is someone I can (and did) listen to all day. Amazing, heartbreaking, funny, interesting, informative. #litsyreadingchallenge #lrc9 #pocmemoir #litsyatoz #letterN

This book is often described as "important," and that word is warranted. It's also beautifully, painfully written.

DivineDiana Yes, it is. And listening to him read the audio is moving. 8y

I just finished this, and I'm not even sure what to say after that last chapter. This book is full of entertaining stories, but there's also so much depth. The whole book covers his time growing up in South Africa (none of his rise to fame), and a lot of it revolves around his relationship with his mother. My only issue was that the style of his storytelling was often rambling and I sometimes lost track of time and place.

This was a great memoir. It was interesting and educational. I especially appreciated the attention she paid to privilege and intersectionality. I'm trying to learn as much as I can to be a better ally. #LitsyAtoZ #LetterM #LitsyReadingChallenge #LRC9 #POCmemoir

I've been listening to this off and on throughout the weekend while working on things around the house and during a wet, dreary walk, and it's fantastic. The storytelling style is kind of random and jumps around, but it's incredibly interesting. I'm so glad I took advantage of the chance to download the audiobook.

Aswenson I'm currently listening to this as well and agree the narrative jumps around a bit. I feel like he gets back to the point he starts on most of the time! Loving the story. 8y
Peddler410 I just got this as my first Audible choice. I'm exploring audio books for a month ... we'll see! 8y
Daisey @Aswenson Yes, he does get back to his point, but a few times I've had to rewind and listen again because I lost track with how he jumps around. His stories are well worth the extra effort to keep track! 8y
Daisey @Peddler410 I managed to catch this when it was free and also got the one free Audible credit then as well. I refuse to pay for a regular subscription and get almost all of my audiobooks through the library on Overdrive or Hoopla. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am! 8y
