A Darkness More Than Night | Michael Connelly

Terry McCaleb, the retired FBI agent who starred in the bestseller "Blood Work," is asked by the LAPD to help them investigate aseries of murders that have them baffled. They are the kind of ritualized killings McCaleb specialized in solving with the FBI, and he is reluctantly drawn from his peaceful new life back into the horror and excitement of tracking down a terrifying homicidal maniac. More horrifying still, the suspect who seems to fit the profile that McCaleb develops is someone he has known and worked with in the past: LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch.

Bosch and Terry McCaleb cross paths when the L.A. cops reach out to retired FBI agent McCaleb for help with a murder they suspect may be the first in a series. Something about the way the crime scene is staged leads McCaleb to suspect Bosch (rolls eyes). Perhaps not top-notch Connelly (McCabe is a bit of a bore, truth be told) but enjoyable enough.

Drive , drive , drive , drive.Listened to most of the book , finished it reading this copy.Like others have mentioned, a bit too much McCaleb & not enough Bosch .Will still continue to read the series.Nice side story about the painter Heironymus Bosch.Love how Connelly uses real L.A.He noted two bookshops Duttons Brentwood & The Mystery Bookstore .Both gone now.😞

Despite some silly elements and the fact that I really dislike Terry McCaleb, I enjoyed this novel. It offers a look into the complicated motivations people often have and how we can get tunnel vision when we focus too hard on a single thing, like I am perhaps doing with Michael Connelly's books. Reading an established series really triggers the binge-reader in me.

ImperfectCJ Bonus points to this one for being the first Connelly I've read without an awkward sex scene! Yay! 2y

I'm sure the bosch books get better and better. Here in bk 7 Harry is key witness in a Holywood celebrity murder trial. Terry McCaleb from the last spin off book is also asked by an LA detective to look at a strange murder which is worrying. When the 2 cases become connected the clash makes for a compelling read.

I'm mid 2 bks at mo in the challenge but I thought I'd share a bit of a coincidence. My next rd for irl grp is the penelope Fitzgerald who is also an art expert in my current delve into the wonderful world of hieronymus bosch. I'm hoping she doesn't meet a sticky end .

Bk7 of July & the 7th Bosch book is done! I started reading this last night on my e reader, got me hooked back into Harry‘s LA. I‘ve had to get a few on my kobo(copies “liberated” from my library)& it‘s old and slow & drives me nuts. This is told mainly from Terry McCalebs view, the profiler from Blood Work, as he‘s approached about an unsolved murder by an LAPD detective. Bosch is involved in a high profile case but becomes a suspect in McCalebs.

This book had nice crossover between previous books, though not in a way I would have expected. Former FBI agent Terry McCaleb is back, and while consulting on a stalled murder investigation finds a ritualistic link to a painting... one that seems to implicate none other than Harry Bosch. Really solid! It didn't feel *too* suspenseful though, mostly bc I was skeptical about Bosch going down for murder with so many books left in the series 😂

I do enjoy these stories, because they are moving so fast... but I am a little weary about the figure of Harry Bosch and how his person is always involved in a shady way. Also, this is book 7 and the plot becomes a little repetitive. I am going to give this series one more shot and then we'll see.

Book #7 in the Harry Bosch series. As the title implies, this was a dark book. Not a lot of sunshine and rainbows in this story. Not that there usually is when dealing with homicide. Less detective in this one as the big thing is a trial Harry is participating in - on the prosecutors side this time. I think this will help move his character & storyline down the road; be influencing factors for sure.

Bk11 of my #MarchUnshelfing #challenge is done. Another brilliant outing by Connolly, this one is divided between Bosch & the ex FBI profiler from Blood Work, Terry McCaleb. When a body is found with ritualistic elements, McCaleb is asked his opinion by Sheriffs deputy, Jaye Winston. Tracing the elements to a painting by medieval painter Hieronymus Bosch, suspicion turns to Bosch after they find the victim was also last seen by the detective.

🎶Another one bites the dust, hey hey, another one bites the dust 🎶

This Bosch book is getting DNFed at 25% read. I‘ve enjoyed other Bosch titles, but this one so far hasn‘t featured much of him at all. I‘m flying to California on Sunday and I want something for the trip that I‘m actually looking forward to picking up again when I have to put it down. #bosch

I am using my new Kobo Clara HD for the first time and so far I like it much more than my 2nd gen Paperwhite. It‘s easier to hold because it‘s lighter, and the orangey Comfortlight is a welcome improvement for night reading. I even accidentally borrowed a library ebook with it last night, as it has integrated OverDrive . #kobo

I am trying to catch up on the Harry Bosch novels! This novel was a crossover between Harry Bosch and Terry McCaleb. I found myself not liking McCaleb very much. I wanted more from Bosch but overall the book was good!

I am a huge fan of the Harry Bosch Series but this has been abit of a disappointed 😕
In this book Terry McCaleb is introduced who is one of Michael Connelly's characters from another series.
My problem is he is in it far too much and there just isn't enough Bosch! Added to that is the fact I really couldn't warm to McCaleb and he ruined the book for me.
The story is good but just would have preferred more of Bosch's point of view 🙂

While I didn‘t care for the narrator of the audio version (what‘s with that Bosch voice?!), and the plot is the closest depiction from the TV series, I still enjoyed catching up with Bosch and getting to know Terry McCaleb! Another great one for #AudioColoring!
