Setting up next week! Hoping for ❄️ so I can stay home & read. I'm almost done with SUCH A FUN AGE (#millenialauthor). Then I'll dive into tagged book which I pulled at random from my TBR Jar in an effort to #readyourownbooks. Tagged book also has seagulls on the cover so that will work for a #booked2020 prompt too! Finally I'll dip into FRIENDING bc making friends is hard but healthy & I want to be better at it. #weeklyforecast

alisiakae We have a lot of rain in our forecast this week, which I prefer, since my daughter still goes to school, but I have an excuse to act like a hermit. 😆 5y

Thank you to @HardcoverHearts for her readalong which encouraged me to finally read this masterful but hefty book. It had lingered on the TBR for far too long! Donna Tartt‘s love of Dickens is evident in this coming of age story. Exciting start in NYC where much of the book takes place. Not a fan of the Vegas chapters. Hobie and Boris are favorite characters. Did not like the glorified use of drugs and alcohol throughout. #readyourownbooks

Kaila-ann This one is still on my TBR. 5y
DivineDiana @Kaila-ann So many books! The movie coming out was another incentive! 5y
wen4blu I really need to read this one! 5y
DivineDiana @wen4blu It‘s a chunkster! 😉 5y

The University of Pennsylvania Libraries has organized a region wide series of cultural events to celebrate Walt Whitman‘s 200th Birthday. Perfect timing to read this book of poetry that has been waiting patiently on my shelves. #readyourownbooks

ValerieAndBooks I have a very fragile antique copy of this — should get a reading copy! 5y
DivineDiana @ValerieAndBooks That sounds lovely! I did not expect this book to contain such an abundance of poems. It is nearly 500 pages. I will be reading this one for some time! 🙂 5y

Redheadrambles What's the plan @ReadingEnvy are you reading the entire list ? Any standouts ? I am super happy with this list over and above last years ;) 7y
ReadingEnvy @Redheadrambles I'm going to at least try every book. I can get my hands on everything but the Mozley so might order from the UK once it's out. How about you? I agree the list has more appeal than many years! 7y
Redheadrambles @ReadingEnvy well I am still recovering from the fact I have even read 3 being the snail to your hare ... but if I set aside August I probably will try for ExitWest / Autumn / Res13 and then see what else stands out and or makes the short list 7y

Marchpane @Redheadrambles @ReadingEnvy I've only read two but plan on reading at least 4 more.... no way will I be touching 4321 with a barge pole tho 😆 7y
ReadingEnvy @Redheadrambles Autumn is a book I've been saving... For autumn! So will have to read it early. 7y
ReadingEnvy @Marchpane yeah I do not foresee loving the Auster as I've never finished anything by him, but I'll try. 7y
vivastory Auster is interesting, because I have the sneaking suspicion that my favorites would be lesser known works like "Timbuktu" & "As the Weird World Rolls On" 7y
Marchpane If you love, love, LOVE it @ReadingEnvy I might be persuaded to give the Auster a chance but ~900 pages is a lot! 7y
Billypar Not to get off on a side track but, @vivastory As the Weird World Rolls On........ What is this? When I googled it, it brought me to quotes on page 148 of Man in the Dark, but is this a story of his, or essay or something? 7y
vivastory @Billypar You're right. I meant "Man in the Dark." I like "Weird World Rolls On" more as a title 7y
Redheadrambles @Marchpane @ReadingEnvy I have never tackled a Paul Auster. I have him vaguely in my American male too hard basket along with Saul Bellow and Thomas Pynchon but this might be unfair... however if either of you say it's worth it I might consider it ... 7y
ReadingEnvy @vivastory great titles! 7y
ReadingEnvy @Redheadrambles and I think this is my issue... There is "too hard" and "trying too hard" and tbh I've places Auster in the latter whether or not he deserves it. 7y
Billypar @vivastory Oh ok- I never read MITD, but it looks like that quote is from a fictional poem the characters are discussing. I feel like making that the title of a new novel would be a definite Auster move ☺ 7y
Billypar @Redheadrambles The nice thing about Auster is you don't have to struggle to get through a page like you might with someone like Pynchon. He has a few works that have more postmodern qualities but most are like stories told simply but have a mysterious or philosophical feel. I would start with Mr. Vertigo, Leviathan, or The Brooklyn Follies. 7y
JenP @Redheadrambles I hate Bellow with a passion but really liked the Auster book. I found 4321 pretty accessible but it is true that every sentence is meticulous created 7y
JenP @Billypar absolutely! His was my feeling reading 4321. Perfectly crafted sentences but at heart easy to read and connect with. 7y
Billypar @JenP I've never been so excited to read so long a book- 4321 will probably be the longest I've ever read- glad to hear it was good! 7y
JenP @Billypar I highly recommend tabs or page markers. I found it useful to flip back to certain sections to orient myself. I hope you like it! 7y

This is the first book finished for the #slaythatseriesreadathon and I stayed up way too late. This series is fun and steamy. TDK is book #6 and I think it was better than the last one. Riley, half-werewolf/half-vampire, has matured a little and is coming to terms with being a guardian and her new abilities. Quinn, her former vampire lover is back, which pleased me. ☺️ #Litsyatoz #readyourownbooks
