Excellent. King is always entertaining but this one is well-paced, full of mystery, populated with great characters, & has a doozy of an evil duo at the center of it all. I loved that evil has no age limit in this book, that it‘s octogenarians who have a lot to answer for. I also appreciate that what often makes King‘s books scary is how banal evil can be, how it can lurk just around the corner, maybe even in the next room…shivers. A great read.
Octogenarians hiding a “shocking…secret in the basement of their well-kept, book-lined home?!?” Needless to say, the premise is intriguing and 100 pages in, I can tell you that these octogenarians? They are not good people. 🤣🔪🏡
Barnes & Noble opened a new store in a historic building (former bank) in Wicker Park. Needless to say, I had to check it out. Gorgeous space and it was really crowded. Apparently I‘m not the only one who loves bookstores! 😂 Picked up the tagged book and two others and I imagine it won‘t be long before I go back.
I have a feeling this will be a bittersweet read without Bill.
An intriguing read 🤪😒🧐

4/5
Scary as usual, Stephen King mixes cannibalism with poetry with Covid with popculture and real world doings. Loved this one. 4.5 stars. Kings books are always horrifying but I love them. Holly and Barbara are great characters. An earring can kill!:)
My favorite Kill so far!!!! Kill-pleted 🔪

Looking forward to this October‘s “Halloween read”! Also- my first Stephen King read!
Happy reading 😊
Another great outing for Holly Gibney! I like the reveal of the motives of the antagonists, which is different from Holly's other outings. It was nice to have a not-traumatizing side story following the Robinsons. Also, it is a perfect encapsulation of COVID times, at least for those who took it seriously and followed guidelines.

4✨I loved the thriller vibe of the fictional true crime direction this one went. It went back and forward in time which is always a struggle for me to keep straight, but that was what built the suspense as Holly investigates a few missing persons reports in the tail end of the Covid years. I couldn‘t put it down and real life really got in the way! #LosersClub #HauntedShelves #TeamFlurken
This was Stephen King at his best. I haven't been really creeped out by him in a while, but with some serious Silence of the Lambs vibes, this book did it.
Set during covid, Holly decides to investigate the disappearance of Bonnie Dahl by herself but ends up stumbling on others as well 🖤

LOVED it!
Holly‘s character progression in this is so huge while still recognizing the woman she was when we met her in Mr Mercedes. I love her whole found family with the Robinsons. The villains in this… so creepy, so good.
Thrilling! I was on the edge of my seat for the ending.

My mum is coming to dog sit for me, so I've prepared her a stack of books I think she'll like. Let's see if I can get her to read her second ever Stephen King (Billy Summers was a hit with her).
I‘m a few chapters in and the political hatred is really getting to me. It‘s 💯 not needed for the plot and so ugly. I really hope he chills out in future books!
One needs a #stephenking bookmark when reading for the #losersclub 🤣 #redrum

Considering I have the opposite political views and the opposite views regarding Covid than Mr. King, I really liked this book. It would have been a 5 ⭐️ if it didn‘t talk down to those who think like I do. That being said, I couldn‘t wait to see how it would all pull together at the end. I like almost every book written by Stephen King. This book wasn‘t an exception.
I really ejnoyed it! I love this crime story and I really hope it will be a series.
Enjoyable King book…..as always. Good audiobook.

Another great King. The villains are some of the most odious people in literature. Cannot describe how much I hated them. 😂 Holly Gibney is still one of his best characters.
I am a huge Stephen King fan, and I think he once again knocked it out of the park with this novel. I am thrilled that he decided to continue writing about Holly, Jerome, and Barbara. I fell for those characters during the Mr. Mercedes trilogy. The premise in this story is very creepy and believable. I was nervous for the characters and enjoyed seeing everything brought together in the end.
I feel like each successive entry in King's Holly Gibney line showcases an author dialing in more precisely on what he loves about the character and what makes her books so unique. Holly is no different. To date, this feels like the purest distillation of what makes Holly such an engaging character. The supporting cast are all given blessedly ample page space, and the thrill and looming danger of Holly's investigation demands a frenzied pace. 5/5
While this isn‘t my favorite SK book, I did enjoy it. Holly Gibney is a wonderful character, and it was great to be back with her. Many readers complain about the presence of COVID here, but was King really supposed to ignore it when the book is set during the time when it was rampant? In some places, the story slowed down a bit too much, so perhaps some elements could have been left out, but overall this is a good examination of human evil.
Tackle the TBR 🤓📚

It‘s raining hard here, so instead of going for a walk, I‘m settling in to start Holly after finishing up Murder Road.
“Just when you think you‘ve seen the worst human beings have to offer, you find out you‘re wrong.” (p. 442).
King features Holly Gibney, a character I‘ve loved. She has been hired to find a missing woman and in the process unveils horrors wrought by a pair of demented professors who are seeking a way to reverse the ravages of their old age. King proves, yet again than no one should underestimate midwestern small towns.
It took me a while to get through it but I loved it as I knew I would. If it bleeds was a great start to holly gibney and im glad she got her own story.
Holly was my favorite character from King‘s The Outsider, so I‘ve been looking forward to reading her stand-alone since it was announced. I haven‘t read the Mr. Mercedes series, although I‘m interested now to go back to the start of her story. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I kind of feel like giving away who the serial killers were right at the beginning took away some of the suspense. Didn‘t care at all for the heavy handed COVID commentary
This was entertaining enough to listen to when it was super cold and I needed a cozy distraction; I listened to it while crocheting this toy T. rex and together they were the perfect recourse for cabin fever. #litsycrafters
#popsugar24 neurodivergent main character
The latest from Stephen King continues the story of Holly Gibney, private investigator. As a fan of King‘s books, this is another good one. Another twisted mystery and murder for Holly to solve. Such a great character and really enjoyable read!!
Don't mock my made at 230am, in pencil, eyeballed, and marred in eraser marks reading bracket 🤣🤣
My favorite read of 2023: Holly by Stephen King
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A wrap on Holly Gibney? I immediately wanted this for its stunning cover, but being a relative King noob didn‘t realize I had a bit of back reading to do, so like any good completist, I started with Mr Mercedes. Over the last couple of months, Bill, Holly, Jerome, Barbara, etc, have been such enjoyable characters. Holly obvs stars, and shines, here. Mr King, your brain disturbs me. And your stories enthrall.
12-7-23: My 98th finished book of 2023! Holly Gibney has been around for many books now. She shows up in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy and in the short story If It Bleeds as well as The Outsider. She is a great King character. Flawed in many ways but a great detective who faces a lot of scary stuff. In this novel, Holly is dealing with a crazy old couple, several disappearances and her own personal issues related to covid.King always keeps my interest.
I was looking forward to this so much but it didn‘t live up to my imagination. The first half was good but not great. It wasn‘t until the final quarter that I felt excitement and didn‘t want to put it down. I do like to see the continuation of Holly‘s story and Barbara and Jerome. 3.5 stars.
We #NashvilleLittens did a local #SpookySwap. I‘ve been dying to open this package! Everything is just perfect! My extra-talented friend @Booksnchill painted this lovely card. Definitely framing it! 📦👻📚💚
