And the Trees Crept In | Dawn Kurtagich

Two sisters, Silla and Nori, run away to their mother‘s childhood home to stay with their aunt. They are warned to stay away from the woods. Is the manor cursed? Is Silla mad? What is real? I started this on audio and had to switch to print because the background whispering was so unsettling. Several reviews stated this was repetitive, but I think that is purposeful. It contributes to a feeling of confusion and madness. I really liked this one.

I enjoyed this light, fun read! Mei is a great MC and this book is a good glimpse into Asian culture, and how different generations can clash.
Read for #booked2019 #foodorbeverageonthecover and #LLB19 #receivedinalitsyswap and #popsugar2019

I learned a lot about the rare book world, reading this book. But John Gilkey, a book thief, made me so angry I had to put the book down & walk away a few times. I unfortunately have personal experience with manipulators & know how they justify every bad thing they do. Written very well, the author tried to be impartial, it‘s a good read. My #SomethingYouSawOnLitsy for #NonFiction2019 & #ReceivedInALitsySwap for LittenLoveBingo #LLB19 #MountTBR2019

Traci1 I found this guy interesting (not in a good way) because it seemed like his "obsession" really could have been anything. He landed on books, but it seemed to me he could just have easily decided he wanted to collect rare coins or stamps or beanie babies. 6y

My next book is also doing triple duty in reading challenges. For #NonFiction2019 its #SomethingYouSawOnLitsy its #Bk3 on #MtKilimanjaro #MountTBR2019 its #ReceivedInALitsySwap in #LittenLoveBingo #LLB19 John Charles Gilkey is a rare book thief, not for money, because he loves books so much he‘s willing to go to prison for them. Ken Sanders is the investigator who‘s out to catch him. This is about the cat & mouse game that follows.

“There was red, certainly, but a painter‘s palette of variations, deep garnet to almost orange, with streaks of green and yellow. It‘s comforting weight filled her hand, the ridges sliding between her fingers.”

Filled with beautiful images like this, this book delights my senses. I can practically smell the garden green and loamy. Taste it! The author makes you feel the characters in the same way.

(I want an emoji of kissing my fingertips!)

Thndrstd I loved that book 6y
