And the Trees Crept In | Dawn Kurtagich
post image
Pickpick

Two sisters, Silla and Nori, run away to their mother‘s childhood home to stay with their aunt. They are warned to stay away from the woods. Is the manor cursed? Is Silla mad? What is real? I started this on audio and had to switch to print because the background whispering was so unsettling. Several reviews stated this was repetitive, but I think that is purposeful. It contributes to a feeling of confusion and madness. I really liked this one.

Fellow Litten @alysonwrites wrote this fun novelette about a councilor‘s center for fairy tale characters! You can read it on Instagram as an #instanovelette, she‘s alysonimagines there.

This fulfilled my #LittenLoveBingo square for #writtenbyalittenauthor. And that polishes off this reading challenge for me! #LLB19

LibrarianRyan Nice! 4y
alysonimagines @Soubhiville I‘m so honored that you chose my story for your #writtenbyalittenauthor challenge! And yay I am happy that you enjoyed reading it!!! Thanks for the mention! (edited) 4y

I loved this! I had no clue I was missing out on such a charming book. I was sad when it ended and I think I will probably revisit it down the road. I recommend the audio version. Barbara Rosenblat felt like the perfect narrator for Helene. #LLB19 #bookaboutbooks

CarolynM Such a lovely book❤️ Does your edition include The Duchess of Bloomsbury St? If not, you need to get it. I think all Helene Hanff's books are fabulous. 5y
batsy I love this book ♥️ 5y
AlaMich It really should be required reading for bookworms! 5y

Girl in Disguise | Greer Macallister

According to the author‘s note, few facts are known about Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton agent. Macallister does a lovely job filling out Kate‘s life and work. I liked this one a lot and wouldn‘t have minded more time with Kate. If you are fan of Ariel Lawhon, you will like this one too. #LLB19 #Littenauthor

Another strangely beautiful Aussie story, this one set in the winter cold of southern Tasmania. Jessica works at a cave system in the national park, living in a cabin on the water with her abusive boyfriend Mathew. Until one night when he doesn‘t come home & the police find his car on the side of the highway empty. Are the women right, was he taken by something evil? #LLB19 #BookWithAPrettyCover #Pop19 #AuthorsFirstAndLastNameSameLetter

West: A Novel | Carys Davies

I enjoyed this and wish it had been longer. Cy Bellman reads in the newspaper about enormous ancient bones and heads west to find them, leaving behind his 10 year old daughter, Bess. The story alternates between Bellman‘s journey and Bess at home, lonely and waiting for his return. This book has been on my mind because of my current read tagged below. #LLB19 #amrbooktbrtemptation

Read in May.

This one seems to get mixed reviews, but I ended up kind of loving it. I listened to the audio production and thought the multiple narrators brought the interview format to life. I even teared up at the end. #Booked2019 #FeaturesAMusician #LLB19 #aBOTMpick

Read in April.

Bookzombie @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen Hi! This is a late post from last quarter. I just wanted to let you know so you don‘t count in a giveaway. I have a few more of these to post. 😬 5y
Cinfhen Thanks for the heads up!! I wish I would have listened to this audio!! I think I would have liked it more than I did in print ( which was only so-so for me) 5y
Dragon I agree the actors really added to the audiobook 👍😀🐉 5y

Stone Mattress: Nine Tales | Margaret Atwood

Pickpick

Not being a short story fan usually, I‘m always worried about picking up a collection, but this one was a winner. Many of the tales have characters dealing with aging and I enjoyed that perspective. The first three, which are related to one another, and the final story “Torching the Dusties“ are probably my favorites. #AuthorAMonth #LLB19 #bookfromauthoramonth

Soubhiville Yay! I‘m glad you enjoyed it! This is the second book finished for author-a-month so far! I‘m almost finished with mine, too. 😊📚 5y

Bookzombie @Chrissyreadit Aww, thank you! 💗 5y
Bookzombie @Cinfhen It was kind of a surprise. I like Grann quite a bit and had already read The Lost City of Z and a collection of his articles, but I cried at the end of this one. Also, it‘s a short read. *Disclaimer: I cry easier than most. 5y
Cinfhen I heard it‘s VERY SHORT but I LOVE his writing!!!! And I‘m a HUGE crier 🙄 5y
