Littens! Hook me up this beautiful #recommensday . Last summer, everyone was raving over The Death of Mrs. Westaway so I downloaded it on audible for my week long gig chaperoning leadership conference and LOVED it. This year I‘m going back to USULC (with new people) and I DESPERATELY need something just as intriguing to keep me occupied. I loved the style of Westaway (like how it was no gore just twisty). So... What do you have for me?

JamieLou I should let it be known this is the first and only thriller I‘ve ever read/ listened to. Usually I do cozies. 5y
AmyG I don‘t know how they are on audible but a few thrillers I liked were No Exit and The Silent Patient. 5y
Victoriahoperose The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager was really good! 5y
shellleigh33 I second @AmyG didn‘t listen to Silent Patient on audible but just read it and thought it was really good. Also loved Behind Her Eyes but only read it. 5y

Just saw his recommended book list from Bill Gates & I don‘t believe I‘ve read even one...(hard to believe). Love this quote though! #litinreallife #recommensday #whyiread

This was a great read. I read Mary Karr's memoirs out of order, having started with Lit last year (also great). This was about her tumultuous childhood in East Texas. It was my July book club read and I finished a little late 😳Still, it's definitely exemplary of the genre. 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #recommensday

Sense and Sensibilty | Jane Austen

Let's try this #recommensday thing.

Jane Austen took me a long time to appreciate. We watched Sense and Sensibility a lot at home when I was a kid but, being the Romantic that I am, I didn't understand all the crying and outbursts. I liked watching it for my joint crush on Winslet and Rickman. I didn't get any more Romantic as an adult, but I tried the book for an Online course about mental health and reading and fell in love with the humour!

When I was in graduate school, I became obsessed with Patrick McGrath and this novel in particular. This story is set in an insane asylum and features a doctor and his wife. Because of this book, insane asylums are now one of my favorite settings. I couldn't love this book more. So this is my #recommensday for the week. It's also a good cold weather read for a very late #fridayfunphoto entry for last week. #betterlatethannever

Keegz63 I am so in! Thanks for the review! 8y
Zelma That sounds great! I find books in asylums fascinating too. 8y
Owlizabeth I think I've read this...I hate that feeling, where you can't remember whether or not you've read a book! Did she try to arrange a dance at some point? Like a prom for the patients? 8y

LitHousewife @Owlizabeth There was something like that, but I'm not completely sure. I definitely need to reread it myself. I tend to lose details and only retain the way a book makes me feel. 😁 8y
CherylDeFranceschi This book is actually etched in my brain! So eerie! 8y
jennifersmeth This one has been on my list for a while. Thinking it would be a good October book..... Yes? 8y
WordWaller Ooh, I've been looking for a good insane asylum book. I tried a YA one last year that was terrible. Thanks for the rec! 8y

Moon Called | Patricia Briggs

It's #Recommensday, but all my books are still packed (just moved). So this one comes from off the noggin. It's book 1 of the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. It's got werewolves, vampires, fae, witches, and shifters. What's not to like! It's the only series, besides Harry Potter, that I've kept the books.
I had the immense pleasure of meeting the author several years ago at Murder by the Book in Houston. She is so nice!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Me too! I have these on a shelf right below Harry Potter. If you haven't already try Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews too! 8y
Lizpixie I love this series! I would love to meet her too😍 8y

Spinning Heart | Donal Ryan

This audiobook is one of my favorites of all time. Through the stories of 23 people in a small Irish town, Ryan wrote a novel that spoke to me deeply. All of the characters are narrated by Wayne Farrell and he was amazing. Relatively new to the craft, he made them each unique. It is just over 4 hours long and so darn good. It is more than deserving of my #Recommensday vote.
