#booked2018 October-December

#FlowerOnCover: Ask Me About My Uterus
#RefugeeMC: The Girl Who Smiled Beads
#Steampunk: Perdido Street Station
#DiverseNonfiction: Born a Crime
#MCOver70: Our Souls at Night

alisiakae I read Ask Me About My Uterus for the invisible illness prompt! I have endo, so I love that there is finally a book that this frustrating disease, but I wish it had better editing, and felt a bit all over the place. 6y
shadowspeak17 @4thhouseontheleft I totally agree. I‘d never read anything about endo before, so I thought it was great that Norman wrote about it sharing her story. It really could have used some better editing though. It certainly wasn‘t a bad read as it is, but it could have been so much better. 6y
Cinfhen Woohoo!!! Congrats on completing all these prompts 🥳🥳🥳 6y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a truly heart-wrenching and eye-opening book. Not an easy read, but a necessary one. I would recommend it.

This book...it grabbed me from page one. The lyrical prose, the heartbreaking choices Nadia and Saaed face as they find a way to escape war was engaging. It‘s a look at refugees, but also a look at racism and prejudice. So engrossing!

Book Three of #MakeMeReadIt and the #RefugeeMC prompt for #Booked2018

Cinfhen Nice choice!!! I really loved this one too!! 6y

I loved this short novel about an Ethiopian refugee living in dc in the early 2000s. It tells his story intermixed with the gentrification of Logan circle. Having lived in dc and close to this neighborhood in 2007 the sense of place really resonated with me. Timely and moving. Captures the feeling of living in a place while still being apart from it. #booked2018 #refugeemc

Blaire @MicheleinPhilly agree! So good...can‘t believe I hadn‘t heard of this book before. Has he written anything else? 6y
alisiakae Great review! He has written a few books. 6y
MicheleinPhilly @Blaire Yes! I have this one but haven‘t read it yet 6y
Blaire @4thhouseontheleft @MicheleinPhilly great, I‘ll have to check them out. 6y
SqueakyChu I also loved his writing about DC. I felt as if I were walking the streets with his characters! 6y

Bookzombie @wanderinglynn @4thhouseontheleft It was okay. Not my favorite MacAlister book. I haven‘t read a lot of steampunk, but I read some reviews after I read it that said it was light on the steampunk. (edited) 6y

Roundup of my second quarter of #Booked2018. I'm having so much fun with these prompts - I'd never have found the steampunk-title if it wasn't for this, and it's /so good!/

#Steampunk: Castle in the Stars
#Friendship: You're Welcome, Universe

Finally completed this 1/4‘s #booked2018 with this YA with a #refugeeMC
Tiny is a great character -brave and resilient. She escapes to Kenya as a child, from the DRC and survives as a street thief after her mother is brutally murdered. What starts as a heist/revenge story, becomes a dangerous journey of discovery back to her birth place. It tackles tough themes for YA-rape, violence, war and corruption, but the story of friendship shines through.

Cinfhen Awesome review and congrats on another quarter completed 🎉🎉🎉 (edited) 7y
