Story follows Brooklyn born and bred Sydney as she struggles to hold onto her mother‘s home, garden and her neighbors as gentrification infiltrates. Recently divorced, previously gaslit and institutionalized, when neighbors start disappearing, she starts to question if it‘s a coincidence or something more sinister.

The characters 💯
The history/social studies lesson 💯

Dracula | Bram Stoker

I picked the 1931 version of Dracula with Bela Lugosi for my #scarepair for week 1‘s #Screamthon challenge, because I hadn‘t seen it. It‘s not much of a scare, lol. It‘s only 75 minutes long so a lot of the book was left out and also a couple of main characters. Harker doesn‘t go to Transylvania, Renfield does. Dr. Seward is Mina‘s father in the movie. There are several other changes.

Bookzombie Also, there is a shot of a possum crawling into a coffin. I think they were used to look like large rats. There is another shot with armadillos. I looked it up and both of those animals appear to live only in North and South America and not in Transylvania. 2y

Book 1 of #Screamthon - Amy, her plus-one, and her parents are invited to her middle grade best friend‘s wedding out of the blue. It‘s an all-expenses paid trip to Europe that no one can resist.
This has been compared to Battle Royale and Ready or Not. RoN is because it‘s set at a wedding. BR is fair, although I thought it had more similarities to The Belko Experiment. I liked it and read it in a little over a day.

Bookzombie This is box 20 for #Bookspinbingo I will get a card made at some point. 🎃 2y
Reggie I just finished this series on Netflix called Squid Game and it‘s basically Battle Royale for the indebted with a heavy theme of what Capitalism does. Anyways if you haven‘t seen it you might like it. Your nice review made me think of it. 2y
alisiakae Great review! 🖤🧡 @Reggie Squid Games is SO popular right now! Teens love it and I hear so many moms complain about the show. I‘m like, move over kid, I want to watch too 😂 2y
Bookzombie @Reggie @4thhouseontheleft Thank you! I hadn‘t really paid attention to what Squid Game was about, but I will definitely have to check it out. 2y

Ya'll, I have a lot of posting to do today for #Scarathlon2020, so I apologize if I flood your feed. Work was good yesterday and my friends and I won the costume contest (we were Rock, Paper, Scissors... I'm sure you can guess what I was!). And I got lots of reading done!

The Dead Husband | Carter Wilson

A recent widow returning home to dark family secrets, a detective convinced she killed her husband, and some major family drama coming for both characters. I really liked this one, although it's an unusual thriller and it's not afraid to go extremely dark.

A smart-alec grim reaper/P.I., 3 murdered attorneys, ghosts, a big bad, a fabulous BFF named Cookie, and a red jeep named Misery.

This is one of my all-time favorite series. #scarathlon and #screamthon seemed a perfect time to do a reread. #teamharkness book 20

Book 10 for #outstandingOctober

This was a hard one to rate. The beginning is slow and drawn out, and I was bored at times. The twist is pretty nice though. I mean, the one I strongly suspected from the get go, but there's another one that I did not see coming (but that might have been because I misunderstood the timeline). I wish the twists had come earlier, bc that would have made the book more compelling. 6pts

Great witchy read! I did feel like I was starting mid-series because there's a lot of reference to past events (thankfully, the author is releasing a short story soon that covers that event), and made for a great #Scarathlon2020 and #Screamthon read! Also part of my #BookSpinBingo card! Halloween happens during the book so 26 points!

veritysalter I love this sticker pack 🖤 3y

The Haunting of Beatrix Greene | Vicky Alvear Shecter, Rachel Hawkins, Ash Parsons

Beatrix Greene is a well known medium. There's just one catch, she doesn't believe in ghosts. When James Walker, known for discrediting charlatans, offers her a large sum of money to spend a night in a haunted manor to prove or disprove the existence of ghosts shes convinced it's a trap. Confident in her ability to convince him, especially with a life changing amount $ on the line, she accepts the job. A night of frantic horror follows.
