Full Dark, No Stars | Stephen King

Pickpick

Some great short stories by #StevenKing to include 1922. Definitely worth a read, and my first Steven King book. I‘ve got #IT on tap after I finish the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

“But look at this: a book about the Long Walk from an insider‘s point of view...it would make one heck of an interesting book, I think”
That it is, Harkness, that it is.

readinginthedark This book was so much scarier than the movie! 7y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark I haven‘t seen the movie either. It‘s not really my genre. 7y
readinginthedark Yeah, I actually read it in middle school. I probably wouldn‘t have as an adult. 😆 7y

GingerAntics @readinginthedark MIDDLE SCHOOL?! Something I read about it said it was one of his starriest stories. I‘m afraid it would give me nightmares now, forget middle school. lol You are a far braver woman than I. 7y
readinginthedark Oh, it definitely gave me nightmares! 🙈But my cousins thought I was really brave, because when we watched the movie, I wasn‘t scared. 😆The version in my head was so much more terrifying! I‘ve only read two of his—this one and Carrie—and I could see it being one of his scariest. There‘s a psychological element where you‘re not sure what‘s really happening...not to mention the little boy, and you don‘t know what will happen to him! 7y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark I seem to do that, too. With things like that I always make them more intense in my mind. I went through a phase where I read a couple horror/thriller novels, but my dreams went so wonky and just stopped. lol 7y
readinginthedark Makes sense! I always have crazy dreams anyway, so my question is usually: “This book is really stressing me out. Am I at least learning something new to make the experience worth it?” You can see why I read memoirs but not horror any more. 😆 7y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark I‘m that way, too. I‘ve always slept funny and dreamed funny, so that‘s one of the main reasons I stay away from horror stories. 7y

About 170 pages into my book. I'm so hooked and wish my work schedule was a little lighter so I could read more! Have a short break in my day so I'm home reading... at least for a little while. #stevenking #11/22/63

With the new visual version coming out, and the classic Tim Curry movie too, it's easy to forget how good the actual book is, but IT is by far one of Kings better reads, with some very strong moments of true darkness throughout. Pennywise in the book is so much darker than any tv/cinema version I've seen. Adore this novel 👌🏻

Between.the.lines I loved this movie as a kid, first horror movie I actually saw.. However I have never read the book and you have just been my inspiration to pick up a copy 8y
Jamesfahyauthor @Between.the.lines that's wonderful 🙌🏻 as is so often the case, there's a lot more depth to the book than the movie. The classic Tim Curry version omitted pretty much most of the scariest or more unsettling scenes as it was a TV movie. I'm wondering if the new version will have more of the book in it. I hope so 8y
Between.the.lines I really hope it does to..! 8y
lostbetweenthelines The new movie looks scarier than the old one, but I have a hard time picturing anyone other than Tim Curry as Pennywise! 8y
Jamesfahyauthor @lostbetweenthelines me too! It's going to be weird. ( but then I thought the same when they remade nightmare on elm street and that turned out okay) 😁 8y
