This was the kind of book that was interesting for all that wasn‘t said between the lines. I read it twice this year. 🐕

Roman policier suédois de référence parmi ces auteurs si talentueux et fréquentés par le publique francophone et dans le monde entier! Absolument passionnant. L‘écriture et style de l‘auteur te poussent à lire et à ne pas s‘arrêter… addictif !

Midsummer on Sandhamn was a lot less fun than these spoilt teenagers were expecting. Another great murder mystery, number 5 in the series. #SeriesLove2025

Picture is Mount Cook from my hotel room window.

Centique What a wonderful view! Did you stay at The Hermitage? 3w
CarolynM @Centique Yes! Fabulous place. We were so lucky with the weather there, we could see the peak most of the time we were there. 3w

Having been a fan of the series with Kenneth Branagh (we didn't have the opportunity to watch more than one episode of the original Swedish series), I was eager to compare the experience of reading one of the books. This did not disappoint. There's a lot happening. Lots of character development for Wallander, who is going through his own stages of grief. My only real complaint is that I wanted more of the catalyst to be involved in the plot.

rebcamuse Instead, we get the trigger, and we know who the culprit is, but I was left feeling like the plot took a huge left turn, and used insanity as the defense. Still, there are truly interesting characters and it was a rich experience for a book that I'd normally designate as a "beach read" (nothing wrong with that, but this book was more intense and deep than anticipated!). 1mo

My #DoubleSpin for June. I looked through my shelves multiple times, thinking I had the paperback, only to discover that, no silly me, I have the ebook! Despite the darker subject (the MC is dying of cancer & reflecting on his life) while I'm going through some very stressful stuff, I decided to start reading it. I really tried, but OH did I really dislike this guy & how he treated people, particularly women (especially his wife). #HailTheBail

Finished in March for #TwinPeaksReadingChallenge
#TheManFromAnotherPlace

A new girl has moved in next door. There is something wrong with her, though. And she only comes out at night.

This is a really good vampire story. It‘s very detailed, a little gory, and possibly disturbing to some. Great for readers who like their vampire fiction dark and creepy.

JessClark78 @JenlovesJT47 I love Twin Peaks too. It was hosted by @Yuki_Onna and ran from February 2024 through February 2025. I‘m just very behind on reviews. I believe @Yuki_Onna is doing it again next year. 1mo
JenlovesJT47 Cool, thank you! 1mo

When Roseanna came out in 1965, the portrayal of an independent woman travelling alone and being comfortable in her own body and sexuality, thus defying norms of the time, must have been original but is a bit outdated today. I didn‘t enjoy the writing style much either and Beck is a total bore. Overall, it‘s an engaging enough mystery and I love that the series was written by husband and wife (a journalist and a poet). First book in the series.

Ruthiella I read this a few years ago. I was so struck at how detective work relies on information and how difficult it was 60 years ago now to get it compared to now. They were relying on phone books and transatlantic calls that took days to arrange. 2mo
Anna40 @Ruthie yes, you‘re right. That‘s something I didn‘t consider but is fascinating to read. 2mo
