#12Booksof2025 I wanna play ! January book. Sofie , an intern at a Stockholm publishing house catches the interest of a senior editor, Gunnar because they shared similar insights and passions for books . The book focuses on the dynamics that always comes into play , is publishing more about art or commerce? I found it quietly fascinating. Sofie is on her way up , the more commercial staff think maybe Gunnar‘s time of relevance has past.

A quiet day for me, my 1st Christmas season alone in over a decade. I took a nap this afternoon, made myself a nice dinner, got into my Christmas pj's to watch my fave Christmas movie, Mickey's Christmas Carol while eating popcorn & drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows & a candy cane. Now settling down with a book & a cuppa while Christmas piano music plays quietly in the background. Winter is for resting, & that's exactly what I need.

I read this for Cult Classics book club, and honestly I might not have finished it otherwise. Set in a Swedish suburb in the 1980s, the story follows Oskar, a relentlessly bullied 12-year-old, and Eli, his mysterious new neighbor who also happens to be a vampire. Vampires I can handle, but Eli's human companion is a pedophile and everything involving that man was stomach-churning, as was Eli's origin story. Apart from that, it was very good.

A seemingly low risk woman disappears in southern Sweden, and her disappearance ends up being linked to a white supremacist plot in South Africa. Mankell‘s books take their time, but I enjoyed this. Though written in the 90s, it unfortunately felt quite topical for today.

At night, in deepest winter, the tomten visits all that live on the farm - humans and animals - carrying his little light. A lovely book for younger children.

So this was so unexpected. The ending of the first tale shocked me and I wasn‘t prepared for it. This elderly woman really is up to no good. I‘m not actually sure how I feel about it. It‘s definitely dark but I‘m not sure if it‘s dark humor or just dark. But I was hooked on reading the next story and wouldn‘t mind revisiting Maud. It‘s a short book, so give it a try and see what you make of it.
Characters were well created and felt really realistic.
The beginning made me so curious to see how this is going to end but oh boy how long it took to get there!
This felt a bit too overdramatic to my liking - well how believable it is that several people drive near forest and shout there?
I had super high expectations. I am curious to see what happens to these people next but I expected so much more.
