Practical Magic | Alice Hoffman
post image

#ChillingPhotoChallenge #day26 #Magic I fell in love with the movie first, long before I came to read this novel. It‘s so very different from the movie, but I think the differences are what makes it just as strong to me. You have to think of them as two seperate stories to really appreciate them both. They both have their own unique magic. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-2,067

TNG #ComingOfAge 1.19 This episode is a precursor to Conspiracy, but that story never got anywhere. There is a lot of tension and the crew's frustration at the investigation for unspecified wrongdoings is palpable. Wesley's B-plot of the Academy entrance exam is ok, but fellow candidate T'Shanik was an adorable, non-binary Vulcan and I wanted to see them again.

The only exam story I can think of is Harrison Bergeron.

rretzler This is my favorite short story! I love Harrison Bergeron. I think it should be required reading (and contemplating) for everyone!!!💕 8mo
tournevis @rretzler I agree 100%! The original short story has aged, though, and it's been retold so many times in many ways, so I'm incertain which version would be best for today. 8mo
CindyMyLifeIsLit There‘s a short film version called “2081” that is really good! I showed it to my students this year. (edited) 8mo

Megabooks I disliked the other candidate, curly-haired white girl. She was so obsequious towards Wesley. “Oh, how did I get here? Wow! You‘re on a starship?! Can I touch your biceps?” 🤩🤩😒 As an adult, that just feels sexist. I realize they‘re teenagers, but seriously. Maybe I just don‘t get it because I‘m ace. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
tournevis @Megabooks No, you got it. She was very badly written. 8mo
tournevis @CindyMyLifeIsLit There are many versions, including a quite good one from the 1990s Twilight Zone. 8mo

#SeptemberDanes #day26 #CityOfDreams My literary Dream City is Tar Valon, the Aes Sedai City In The Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan. Built by the Ogier builders & filled with amazing buildings, it‘s an island city with the White Tower at its centre. My IRL Dream City is Edinburgh, Scotland‘s major city. With gorgeous views, medieval castle & centuries of history, it‘s on the top of my list of places to see before I die. Fingers crossed!🤞

Cinfhen Hoping ALL your dreams come true 😘 1y

Day 26 of the RiotGrams Challenge: Set in Your City, State, or Country

This book is set in a fictional small southern town in Tennessee, and the author was born and raised here, so she gets the setting just right. Wonderful book!

The Colditz Story | Major P R Reid
post image

#MarchIntoOz #day26 #WeveGottaGetOutOfThisPlace Today‘s prompt was The Angels cover of The Animals song from the 60s. The tagged book was written by Major Reid who was a POW at Colditz during WWII. Colditz was the camp the Germans sent any troublemakers to,it was considered escape proof, but it didn‘t stop men who believed it their duty to.They even built a glider in the attic which they planned on flying from a hole in the roof! Fascinating read.

Mdargusch I‘ve never heard of Colditz before - fascinating! 2y
Cinfhen Echoing @Mdargusch non fiction beats fiction every day 2y
Lizpixie @Mdargusch @Cinfhen I found a copy of this in a box of donated books when I was a kid. I was fascinated by the ingenuity of men when pushed to the brink. After growing up on a diet of Hogan‘s Heroes & Stalag 13 it was a riveting read. Highly recommend👍 2y
Cinfhen Wow!!! Hogan‘s Heroes #memories my grandpa loved that show!!! 2y

Day 26:A Book📚when I‘m all shopped out-Nothing like reaching for something to give you perspective on excess, opulence, & greed like Dorian Gray 😂 Although they were just the tip of the iceberg on his list of vices I thoroughly enjoy this novel for just that😉, but playing the scene(on repeat)where Dwight tells Jim we need a new Plague due to🌎overcrowding comes a close 2nd🤣 #SurvivingDecember #BookTherapy #PhotoChallenge #Day26
