Book Report: Publishing Strategies, Writing Tips, and 101 Literary Ideas for Aspiring Authors and Poets | Mark Shaw

I bailed on two, and HEAVILY skimmed my IRL bookclub book, One Night Markovitch 😖( horrible, choice) and I sort of read, lightly skimmed the two #ToBPlayIn choices; The Sentence & Country Friends. I liked the other 3 with the winner being When We Cease To Understand The World (#ToB22ShortList)

I‘ve got 8 books to go for the #ToB22ShortList 😃‼️How is the rest of the crew doing??? Any standouts?? I‘ve just started Our Country Friends from the library and then I‘m thinking Several People Are Typing.

squirrelbrain I too have 8 books to go…. Country Friends (and the Awad) aren‘t out here until next month and I can‘t get them on Scribd yet, so I‘ll have to see how I can get hold of them. My next one is the Ozeki. 2y

BarbaraBB I have 11 to go. My next ones will be In Concrete and The Sentence. I have copies of a few more but I need to save them for next year‘s challenges. 2y

sarahbarnes I have 11 to go, too. And I also have In Concrete up next from the library, as well as All‘s Well. I‘m currently reading Klara. Faves so far…probably Lockwood, Subdivision, Trees. I‘m loving Klara so far, too. 2y

Cinfhen I haven‘t gotten to Subdivision yet @sarahbarnes but I did like Trees and Im still holding out all hope for the Lockwood!! I wasn‘t crazy about Klara but I thought the Awad was fun, but not sure it deserves to be named winner. (edited) 2y

Ruthiella I‘m currently reading the Rooney title. Not my cup of tea, but I try to read all the shortlist. I also didn‘t love Copeland Cane. Of the 7 I‘ve read so far, I think Intimacies is my personal front runner... 2y

This is pretty freaki‘ brilliant. You know that game two truths and a lie…well this is it‘s literary equivalent. I see a comparison to the Lockwood novel Nobody is Talking About This, and I‘m a fan of both. In a world of skewed reporting and all types of social media evils this quiet book has a lot to say buried under all the scientific jargon. While you may feel enlightened by this book you need to stop and wonder, what more do I really know?

Libertie: A Novel | Kaitlyn Greenidge

I feel like this book hit some really high notes but also reached some low notes, too. A soft pick buoyed by fantastic narration. A coming of age story set post civil war, Libertie is raised by her mother, one of the first black women‘s doctor in NYC taught to behold her mind over her body. This book touches on feminism, freedom, family,success, colorism, sexuality, magic, medicine, education,mental health, marriage and religion. #ToB22ShortList

Megabooks Sounds really interesting. You know I‘m iffy on historical fiction, so I‘m hoping I‘ll like this. I just got it from the library, so it‘s up soon. (Probably after I hit 500.) I think a random book is going to end up being 500 anyway, though. We‘ll see!! Great review!! 💜💜 2y

Cinfhen It wasn‘t consistent @Megabooks which was my biggest gripe. I think you‘ll like it enough to get through it. Its good but not my favorite from the shortlist. 2y

Libertie: A Novel | Kaitlyn Greenidge

At 75% I‘m much more captivated with this novel. The first half was ok, at times disengaging but once Emanuel Chase makes his appearance, the story picks up….it also gets a little steamy 😉 Narration is very good. #ToB22ShortList #Hoopla
