The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives | Titilola Alexandrah Shoneyin

#WanderingJune Came across this interesting article in The Guardian about #AfricanLady novelists. Of course I added these 4 books to my #TBR https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/dec/15/novels-african-women-female-author...

BarbaraBB Great article. And there‘s Segu too, i posted about it the other day #wherethestreetshavenoname. It‘s really good! 6y
Cinfhen Yes @BarbaraBB I recognized that title from your previous post ❣️❣️❣️ it looks really good!!! My TBR is just ridiculous 6y
TrishB Apart from Litsy The Guardian is responsible for a lot of my tbr! 6y

Kalalalatja I really want to read Kintu after hearing about it at a talk about East African literature. It is supposed to be a great family saga, and that‘s my jam 👌 6y
Ruthiella I loved Kintu! 6y
BarbaraBB @TrishB Mine too! 6y
GatheringBooks checked out the link - great resource, stacked so many books, put a few in my goodreads to-find list as well. :) 6y
KarenUK Thanks for sharing this article... 👍💕 6y
Cinfhen My pleasure @KarenUK @GatheringBooks I thought it was really interesting too!!! I‘m glad to hear Kintu is good @Ruthiella it‘s going on my to buy list once I get to the States @Kalalalatja 6y
Cinfhen I agree @TrishB their book reviews are really spot on!! It‘s some of their other articles I have trouble with 🙄😝 6y
TrishB I treat most journalism with a big dollop of scepticism! (edited) 6y

Neverwhere | Neil Gaiman
post image

In London Below, #wherethestreetshavenoname (only names of places), Richard Mayhew must learn to survive among monsters and saints, murderers and angels. An enjoyable read.
#WanderingJune

(Book Cover inspired by the Novel “NeverWhere” by Neil Gaiman - Alessandra di Bianco).

Cinfhen Not a Gaiman fan but I know this book has lots of #LitsyLove 6y
RamsFan1963 @Cinfhen I prefer Gaiman's short stories to his novels, but Neverwhere is probably my favorite. 6y
Cinfhen I don‘t know why, I just don‘t connect with his work @RamsFan1963 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y
BarbaraBB I am so intrigued by the deserted subway stations in London! 6y
batsy Nice pick! 6y

A Wizard of Earthsea | Ursula K. Le Guin
post image
Pickpick

Just finished this so I‘m bowing to serendipity and using it for #wanderingjune because as far as I can tell the Kingdoms of Earthsea are #wherethestreetshavenoname

This was a very enjoyable short read, my first Ursula K Le Guin. It felt myth-like and I enjoyed the world building and the magic. Le Guin has a lovely rich way of describing place and conjuring up islands, rocky shores and bleak fishing villages for her hero‘s quest.

Crime and Punishment | Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky

#WanderingJune
I started reading Crime and Punishment once, but never finished it. 🤷🏼‍♀️I was a bit stumped on this prompt & didn't want to repeat my pick of the streets Tokyo from two years ago so I did some Googling. I read that many of the streets & place names in Dostoevsky's novel were masked by abbreviation to placate the Russian censors. So the way it is written, the St. Petersburg in the book is a place #WhereTheStreetsHaveNoName 🤔

Cinfhen Nice!!! You did research xx that‘s real dedication ❣️ 6y
BarbaraBB I didn‘t know! Interesting!! 6y

This is the second book in the Finfarrin series, and I enjoyed learning more about Hanna, Jazz, and the other characters. I'm looking forward to the conclusion of the #seriesread which looks like a fun Christmas book. Finfarrin is a fictional place but may be based on the Dingle peninsula where the author has a home. In any case, it's (relatively) far from Dublin #wherethestreetshavenoname except that it's right there on the wall. #wanderingjune

Crazeedi I liked the first one more than the second, but both were pleasurable books 6y

#wanderingjune @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB #wherethestreetshavenoname I‘m pulling the famous quote for this one: “Roads? Where we‘re going, we don‘t need roads!” A bit of a stretch, but this was a tough prompt!

Cinfhen Good memory!! Back to the Future was a long time ago 😂😂😂 6y
BarbaraBB Are those gadgets yours? So retro 😍 6y
StayCurious @BarbaraBB my husband‘s collection. He loves that movie and will grab any comics and gadgets that relate. 6y
