#wordoftheday

“Her attention was entirely fixed on the man who sat across the table, a stranger, considerably older than we were and notably uncomfortable in the rather louche camaraderie of the studio.”

Theroux thrives on unusual words, prompting me to want to start a #wordoftheday or week or whatever. That‘s not new to litsy. But it‘s new to me since I‘m continuously looking up words in the tagged book. Mom @Doll8455 and I, both avid readers and fairly well educated, but we both had to look up “lugubrious” from this book. Now we toss it out often to one another! 😂 and then 😔

I‘ll start today with the word “ruction.” Use it in a sentence?

Texreader “The kids had a ruction over early-to-bed time.” Does that work? (edited) 3d
Doll8455 My dad said my brother always caused a ruckus. Might have been taken from the word ruction. 3d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I like to think I'm fairly smart, but I find myself looking up words, sometimes multiple times across a few books before the meaning sticks. I did skip out on extra SAT prep classes so...🤣 2d

“Some of the obstreperousness left her.”
Word of the Day, compliments of Sarah Woodbury. That sure seemed to come out of nowhere.

Normally I‘d be annoyed at such a big word thrown in out of the blue, but in a way it fits the character so I actually found it amusing. It could be because I‘m willing to give Woodbury the benefit of the doubt. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Either way.

The storm moves in cyclone (circular) form, carrying clouds of dust and sand, and produces on humans and animals a suffocating effect.

"The adjective 'cold' has such an appealing sound. I'd give up anything to experience such cold, for Ice Queen beauty, for shivering jouissance. The ice-cold truth. Acrobatic marvels that give you cold feet. A talent that makes all your competitors blanch and tremble as if frozen. Rationality hone sharp as an icicle. Cold has a broad spectrum." #wordoftheday
