pickTold from 3 povs, we hear from Mama Day, a fierce matriarch, and star crossed lovers, Cocoa and George. This book is very special. The writing is Morrisonesque, I hate comparing writers but there I go. It‘s about all the things family does for each other out of love. George and Cocoa have one of the best he said/she said relationships I have ever read. There is a lot baking, talking to chickens named Clarissa and Cicero, and some hoodoo. It is👇🏼

Centique I am so so SO pleased you liked it. YES! I love knowing that glorious grandma and great aunt are in your head as well as in mine! Boy, I cried too. So glad that Potiki has also stood out for you. Just like Julia Alvarez has become a favourite for me! 4y

ReadingEnvy One of my best schools from library school went to a.quaker boarding school for 9-12 and they read anything but dead white guys. This is the first book she insisted I read as her new friend. Truly great. 3y
