What a great zombie book. Looking forward to reading more in the series.

🧟♀️ I gave a lot of weight to the “plucky” descriptor when I considered which book had characters fighting the machine. If you like zombie stories, I highly recommend Mira Grant‘s entire Newsflesh series. The characters are definitely plucky!

In this sequel to “Dead of Night,” we continue the story of what happened to a small Pennsylvania town after a serial killer, Homer Gibbon, is lethally injected by a deadly virus and thus goes on a bloody rampage, infecting others and ultimately bringing about a zombie apocalypse.

Ooh - this book was so good. I went into it not knowing much about it and was delightfully surprised. It is a post-apocalyptic zombie novel - but a *literary* post-apocalyptic zombie novel. As such, it is a beautiful meditation on life and memory and the nature of being, but with some moments that are somewhat humorous or make you go “huh”. Highly recommended!
For the 2nd chance prompt on the #OffMyShelf challenge.
I first started the tagged in Oct. The premise was intriguing & the beginning showed promise. However, as the story progressed, I lost interest & found that I was forcing myself to read, so I put it aside.
I came back to this book today & only got 2 chapters further than last time. I simply am not enjoying this. Too many things I disliked.
Now it‘s off my shelf & on my Pango shelf!
I‘m in the Midwest getting hit with a snowstorm ❄️ so today has been: cozy reading, snack, football, snack, nap, snack, cozy reading 😆 📚 I enjoyed this YA fiction novel originally published in 2008. It was fun and nostalgic. As much as I loved having a physical book, I‘m picking up my Kindle for my next read!
Hart, a demigod, is a marshal in Tanria who delivers bodies to Mercy the undertaker at Birsdall & Son. The only thing Hart likes about going there is Mercy's dog Leonard. Hart is gruff and jaded, since his job also includes killing drudges (zombies) that take over the bodies of the dead. There's absolutely nothing Mercy likes about Hart whenever he shows up at Birdsall & Son.
Well its actually 22 books but lets call it my #top24of24
Top half is literary fiction, bottom left is non fiction and bottom right is SFF. My top 3 are - North Woods, Cantoras and Other People Manage. I think Cantoras needs more readers and lots of Littens will love it. Other People Manage might just be a Me book. 💔
