TheKidUpstairs
Rabbit Cake | Annie Hartnett
post image
Pickpick

This one has super #BlameitonLitsy pedigree - I first discovered Annie Hartnett through @Chelsea.Poole's #AuldLangSpine list a couple years ago, and when I recently posted about how much I loved Unlikely Animals @Christine recommended this one!

I loved this one so much, a bittersweet portrait of grief through the eyes of 10-year old Elvis. Hartnett has a talent for injecting just the right amount of quirk into her characters and stories (cont'd)

TheKidUpstairs ... the quirk enhances the emotional narrative, rather than distracting from it. I can't wait to read Hartnett's next book! 1w
Christine Oh yay, so glad you loved!! We really are lucky to have Hartnett. 1w

Well my books finally came in. It was around 5:30PM and I was already in my pajamas (jammie time comes early in my house). I didn‘t feel like getting dressed to walk across the street to the mail box so my participation in the #GNreadathon is limited to today only.

I like that these two books are color coordinated.

Edit: this is a #blameitonlitsy book haul 😂

#whereareyoumonday

I‘m in NYC with the protagonist, Bea as she ensnares rich blue blood Collin Chase. This is a #blameitonLitsy choice. Bea is a con artist, but the reader also roots for her. It‘s complicated.

CogsOfEncouragement I‘m reading the Tom Ripley series and find myself rooting for that psychopath too. These authors are good lol 2mo
bookandbedandtea Sounds intriguing- stacked! 2mo
Ruthiella @CogsOfEncouragement I love it when a character is despicable but interesting! 2mo
Ruthiella @bookandbedandtea Definitely check out other Littens‘ reviews. That‘s what made me stack it! 2mo

Sance Tea Party | Reimena Yee

A #BlameItOnLitsy for which I very much thank Litsy! Loved this sweet middle-grade graphic novel about figuring out how to grow up without losing your essential self. It's also casually #queer. Extra points for making me cry. 😂

Book 1. #HauntedShelf #FrightClub #Spookoween #HalloweenAtoZReadathon (Letter Y)

Texreader Yes! A hard letter “Y” already done and with a good book!! 3mo

#blameitonlitsy After @bookwyrm7's post, I spent about 15 minutes looking into Chuck Tingle. His schtick seemed clever, but I'm not one for erotica. Then I saw that he also has written ace-positive stories! Gleefully meta, you can't help but smile at the blunt affirmations and blatant cracks at the expense of our culture of compulsory sexuality. I'm not sure his erotica would interest me much, but I'll definitely be checking out more from him.

bookwyrm7 That one is actually the next one on my list! Was it worth it? 3mo
TieDyeDude @bookwyrm7 It's pretty fluffy, but I liked it. There are two stories; the second is super meta and has a pretty fun alternative to an erotic climax. 3mo
StaceGhost I think I remember reading one of his about his girlfriend‘s vagina as a portal to another dimension 3mo

bookwyrm7 @TieDyeDude now I'm definitely curious. Thanks! 3mo
bookwyrm7 @StaceGhost aren't all vaginas? 🤣 3mo
StaceGhost @bookwyrm7 hahaha!! But you rarely find an entire community living within— or do you? 3mo
bookwyrm7 @StaceGhost a lady never tells... 🤫 3mo

#blameitonlitsy I listened to this based on @Chelsea.Poole review a while back. It was a really interesting look at the experiences and politics of the blind community from someone who has a degenerative condition. I appreciated learning from the perspective of someone who will soon no longer be an outsider and who is trying to figure out his place in a complicated social structure, while presenting the information in an unbiased way.

Chelsea.Poole Great review! I still think about this book and his perspective. 3mo
