I‘m reading this for #booked22 and am not finding it easy going. Still perhaps a little too close to recent memory perhaps

A fairly classic romance novel which are not always my tatse but read as a recommendation from a friend (also I saw it appeared to be part of a trilogy and so ticked that off for #booked22) it was steamier than I had anticipated but overall just a little too melodramatic for my taste

This was a slightly left field pick for me. A story of two teens thrown together in the aftermath of a deadly flu. Whilst much is dark (and reminds me at times of the parable of the sower which I read early this year) there is also a light from the fun relationship and a hint of romance as the two boys figure out what they mean to each other #booked22 might I actually make it?

jhod Hi Jo! Hope you're well! I'm worried thst you might not have received your #jolabokaflod swap...I pose 1y

The writing is excellent of course, each of the stories capturing humanity and compassion. Each story(or should I say book!) echoed the others, with common names, themes and location-an NYC of the past and future, imagined and real. Characters often have little agency, complicated love, struggle with family, illness, grief. But after investing so much time, I ended up feeling a little like I was at arms length from what the book was trying to say.

BarbaraBB I can relate to your review very much! Kudos for finishing Booked and - almost - Pop! 1y

Needed some short books as I was running out of time to complete my 95 book goal, and this was 58 pages!

Completes:
#pop22 #aboutabandorsinger
#booked22 #mclivingwithaids 😭 I really wish I'd been born about 15 years earlier so that I could have seen them live.
#ReadingAfrica22 #zanzibar (or #tanzania)

Cortg Fantastic! Yep, I‘m trying to wrap some reading up before the end of the year. 1y
TrishB Hubby says he‘s the best front man he‘s ever seen live and he‘s pretty much seen everyone over the past 50 years!! 1y
Cinfhen I never saw them live either 😢big regret but I did see the band with Adam Lambert and they were FABULOUS 1y
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen @TrishB well I learnt from this book that the last show they performed with Freddie was in the Dominion Theatre in London, and that's where We Will Rock You had it's London run (which I saw about 5 times before it closed, as we are friends with the drummer & could get cheaper tickets) 1y
Cinfhen Ohhhh, that‘s awesome 1y
BarbaraTheBibliophage So much love for Freddie and Queen! 1y

I apparently bought this in 2014 so it‘s taken a while for me to get to it but thought it would be my ancient option for #booked22 I am. It going to lie this is an odd little book. Beautiful lyrical story telling and language but perhaps a little too out there are literary for me. I am a tad confused by the ending !

I started this book in august and got quite far in before my husband decided he wanted to borrow it and read it exceedingly slowly (and damaged the front along the way 😡 it‘s light hearted and as tongue in cheek as you might expect from a former editor of BuzzFeed but also well researched and thoughtful in its exploration of a variety of conspiracy theories and the psychology around them. Might call this by #booked22 by a journalist!

Another started but not finished #booked22 (and a #readingAfrica) thanks to this weeks #novelnovember. This is hard to review - overall I loved the historical elements of the novel and the story of the kingdoms of Africa pre and alongside colonisation but at times struggled with the very oral style of storytelling in its written form. Also didn‘t love the main character who was annoying and slightly stalkerish. His love has no voice of her own
