If anyone is stuck trying to find a novel for #bookedintime, this website is brilliant!

http://www.historicalnovels.info/Seventeenth-Century.html

@Cuilin

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Thanks for sharing this! I don't know that I'll participate in that challenge, but this is a good resource in general. 10mo
Cuilin Thanks for sharing, great resource. There‘s some really great choices in this time period. Do you know what you‘ll read? 10mo
jenniferw88 @Cuilin I've got too much choice 😂😂😂! I'm thinking of this one though, as I can #doubledip with #titlesandtunes as there was a lot of sex and drugs after the Civil Wars and Cromwell! 10mo

Took this idea from @BarbaraBB and decided to post my #52Books23 challenge progress 😊
I‘ve read 44 out of 52 prompts 😌I‘d say MOST were picks with very few duds🤩

LeeRHarry That‘s amazing! I have read 14 but I‘ll get there 😄 13mo
Librarybelle Amazing!! 13mo

Suet624 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 13mo
TrishB Brilliant 👍🏻 13mo
ravenlee Hooray! I‘m at the point where my choices have to be more carefully chosen now, instead of relying on coincidence. Think I‘ve read 30/52. 13mo
AshleyHoss820 Excellent reading so far! It‘s so nice that it‘s been good reading overall, too! 🎉🎉🎉 13mo
Cinfhen I love these challenges as it helps dictate my reading and introduced me to several new authors @AshleyHoss820 @ravenlee @TrishB @Suet624 @Librarybelle @LeeRHarry 13mo
Deblovestoread Wow! I‘m at 21. Some of my planning includes doubling up with #Booked throughput the year. 13mo
Cinfhen I tried to #DoubleDip @Deblovestoread or even sneak in a #TriplePlay or #GrandSlam as often as possible 😉 it‘s part of the fun 😂 13mo
BarbaraBB You‘re almost done already! Some great reads there! 13mo
squirrelbrain Wow, you‘ve read loads! ❤️ 13mo
Bluebird Amazing progress! You‘ll be done soon! I‘m at 21 now, but i‘ve read most of the easy prompts so it will be tougher going forward 13mo
LaraReads This is so fantastic! Wowzers! 13mo
Cinfhen Other than #octaviabutler and #ABookEveryoneHasRead im in pretty good shape with the remaining prompts @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @Bluebird @LaraReads there are definitely a few trickier prompts but luckily I was able to borrow from online sources like #Scribd and #Libby 😁 13mo
BarbaraBB There will be few books everyone has read but you 😛 13mo
Cinfhen I might have to try again with Harry Potter @BarbaraBB ⚡️👓🧹 13mo
Bklover How was The House Is On Fire? That one sounds interesting 🤔 13mo

#DoubleDip #Booked2023 #ShortStoryCollection #ReadingTheAmericas23 #Argentina Im really enjoying this collection of twisted stories- each containing a trace of horror, set in a contemporary Argentina. Themes of poverty, mental illness, displacement and marital discord seem to be a common link so far.

Librarybelle Sounds interesting! 14mo
Reggie I shocked you‘re reading this. I loved this collection and her new book that just came out is amazing. 14mo
Cinfhen I will DEFINITELY look for her new book @Reggie im not a fan of horror or short stories but this collection was brilliant!!! I wish a few of these stories would be made into full length novels. 14mo
Megabooks I have this sitting on my shelf and totally forgot the Argentina connection! 14mo
Cinfhen Your gonna love this collection @Megabooks it‘s a great pick for Argentina 🇦🇷 @Librarybelle you definitely get a sense of place!!! 14mo

I liked this but didn‘t love it.

I actually listened to the audiobook, and I have to say I don‘t think Erdrich should be narrating her own books. Is it just me? She sounds like she‘s reading, instead of telling it, and it pulled me out of the story many times.

The ending was unexpected for me, not in a great way, so low pick at best.

#AuthorAMonth #Booked2023 #AboutReproductiveRights #DoubleDip 😁

IndoorDame So not just you! I started The Sentence on audio and had to switch over to print because her reading voice was driving me crazy. Now that I‘ve switched I‘m loving her writing voice. Such a difference! 1y
Soubhiville @IndoorDame I wish I had that one in print. I‘m doing audio on it as well. After this I‘ll stick with print for her. 1y
IndoorDame @Soubhiville she doesn‘t narrate all her books for some reason. I have a Libby audio copy of The Birchbark House I‘m hoping to get to later this month that‘s done by someone else. Maybe because it‘s a children‘s book? 1y

Ruthiella I‘m generally against authors reading their books for audio unless they‘re Neil Gaiman. 1y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I didn't love the narration or story when I listened to this one either. 1y
SamAnne This is the one novel of Erdrich's that I did not like. 1y
Cinfhen This had lots of negative reviews when it was first published so I think I‘ll go with a different selection- I have this one on loan 1y

#BookSpinBingo for January! I‘m attempting to be more intentional in my “what I want to include for BookSpinBingo” each month by including titles I definitely have to read. Then, I realized I did not include any series entries for #SeriesLove2023 , and I figured I could #DoubleDip for prompts for challenges like the #52BookClub23 or #192025 . Here‘s to a better follow through with Book Spin this year!

thegreensofa I love your printout!!✨💖. I‘m all set & ready to start ‘Sorrow and Bliss‘ tomorrow. I‘ve been chomping at the bit since I got your #AuldLangSpine list and it‘s actually almost now here! 🤩🥳 1y
Librarybelle @thegreensofa I know! I‘m going to read The Exiles first! Happy New Year! 1y

Another #ReadingAmericas23 audio that I flew through 🥰I thought this would be a mindless listen ( and it was😉) but it was so entertaining and a great escape. Two moneyed Greenwich families fly to #Bermuda for their daughter‘s destination wedding, where of course family secrets explode. Would work for #52BookClub23 #secrets #contemporarysetting #Scribd

Librarybelle Another one for me to check out! I love listening to mindless stories while doing house chores…😂 1y
Cinfhen Exactly @Librarybelle !!! 1y
squirrelbrain Ooh, goody, another one that *is* on Scribd, although I can‘t remember what I‘d already noted for this prompt, so we‘ll see…. 1y
Cinfhen It was mindless but entertaining @squirrelbrain and it definitely could be a #doubledip @Librarybelle 1y

There‘s LOTS of good deals. I picked up Fatty Fatty Boom Boom for #BodyPositivity 😁
Check out all the deals 🤓

RebelReader Fatty Fatty Boom Boom is so good. I just finished it! 1y

RebelReader Just left BN….I got 4 new books. Will post them when I get home! 😝 1y
Chrissyreadit @Soubhiville I don‘t even want to know how long it took you to type all those names! Thanks for the heads up! 1y
TheBookHippie Oooo thank you!!! 1y
Soubhiville @Chrissyreadit I use my Notes Ap, where I have all the names saved, and I copy and paste them. It still takes a while for Litsy to process all 9 groups of tags, but I‘d never be able to keep up if I had to type them all out! 1y
Bklover Thanks Cindy! Thanks Soubhi! @Soubhiville 1y
Cinfhen Future home also works for #ReproductiveRights #Booked2023 just in case you‘re playing along!!! And THANK GD for the notes app @Soubhiville but I agree…waiting for the lists to load is always nerve wracking!!! 1y
Soubhiville A #doubledip! That‘s great, thanks @Cinfhen 1y

21 + hours but worth my time!! A great fully fledged #HF novel about Dorothy Kirwan Thomas, a slave girl from #Montserrat who grows an empire throughout the West Indies including #Guyana #Dominica & #Grenada #Hoopla Loved the narration 🎧#ReadingAmericas23

squirrelbrain Wow, that is long! But sounds very good, and ticks off a lot of countries…. 1y
Cinfhen Yeah @squirrelbrain 4 great countries 😊😁 1y
Librarybelle Love your flowers! This may be one for me to #DoubleDip in challenges next year. I‘ll have to remember that! 1y

The writing is excellent of course, each of the stories capturing humanity and compassion. Each story(or should I say book!) echoed the others, with common names, themes and location-an NYC of the past and future, imagined and real. Characters often have little agency, complicated love, struggle with family, illness, grief. But after investing so much time, I ended up feeling a little like I was at arms length from what the book was trying to say.

BarbaraBB I can relate to your review very much! Kudos for finishing Booked and - almost - Pop! 1y

squirrelbrain Great review! Nearly there with the challenges….! 1y
KarenUK I don‘t know what possessed me to leave 2 chunksters to December, when @) I work in retail, and b) I have page count phobia!!! 🤦‍♀️ #imsuchadumbass 😂 @squirrelbrain @BarbaraBB 1y
Cortg Great review and I totally agree! I have 2 books to go. Next year I want to finish the challenge before December 🤣 1y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great review!! 1y
Reggie Do you think Charlie made it to the UK? 1y
Reggie Great review, btw. 1y
KarenUK I really hope she did…. I little glimmer of hope, but I don‘t know… it all seemed a bit bleak. @Reggie 1y

Mehso-so

Another book that leaves me on the fence, Moon of the Crusted Snow is a slow burn post-apocalyptic novel. There‘s quiet menace and a great building of tension, but it all fell a little flat for me. I appreciated the hopeful, if still sad, tone at the end, but I‘m clearly not ready for apocalypse fiction. Pandemic panic is still too raw. #canada for both #booked2022 and #readingtheamericas2023

Cinfhen Ohhhh, nice #DoubleDip 1y
TrishB I couldn‘t really get into this one. 1y
DGRachel @TrishB I‘m so glad I‘m not the only one! 1y
