#pemberlittens #thewatsonsreadalong #chapter24 Emma finally received her letter from Aunt O‘Brien. The aunt is appalled with Emma‘s plan to become a governess. She talked her in-debt Captain husband into giving Emma 1500 from her estate which comes to about 50 a year. This is not enough for Emma to live on but it is something. The Aunt offers to help Emma become a ladies companion which she quickly rejects. There is hope for Emma.

Ruthiella Reading the Lucy Worsley book about Austen‘s life really made me realize how important that little bit of an independent income could be to an unmarried woman! 2y
julieclair Emma must feel so relieved. At least now she has some options. But I am still very disappointed in her aunt, who really should have taken better care of Emma financially when she decided to marry again. (edited) 2y

#wonderingthroughwutheringheights #chapter24 #pemberlitten Oh Cathy, you stupid stupid girl. Ellen finds out she is visiting WH in the evenings. She tells Ellen of the miserable grouchy Linton and how mean he is to her. How she continues to make fun of Hareton because he is learning to read. Yet Linton‘s horrible attitude and abuse are not his fault and she must continue to see him. Ellen runs right to E and the visits are to stop! Oh Cathy!

Darcy's proposal. It's so awful and so wonderful at the same time! I love watching Elizabeth's evolution from this point on. And not enough attention is paid to what a terrible wingman Colonel Fitzwilliam is 😂. Him spilling the tea about Darcy's role in Bingley's abrupt exit really sets Lizzie up in the worst possible frame of mind to receive Darcy's offer! #pemberlittens #chapteraday #chapter24

DAB Do true on both accounts. 4y
ninergrl6 It‘s so cringe-worthy and hilarious at the same time. I remember the first time I read it having the same reaction as Lizzie: “WTF?! This jerk wants to *marry* her???” But then of course I was swept off my feet with her. 4y
staci.reads @ninergrl6 right?! When I read it the first time, I was 20, and had never seen a movie version, so I went in blind. I thought Darcy was such an ass, and I got to experience Lizzie's change of heart slowly with her. I'm so glad that I didn't know anything about it, other than it was a "classic!" 4y

#pemberlittens #chapteraday #chapter24 Poor Jane is so good natured and wants to believe the best in everyone. She is trying to work through what the realities of her relationship with Bingley were. While she tries to reason with herself, she‘s getting constant input from her mother and sister.

sprainedbrain Poor Jane is right! Going through real feelings in a fishbowl like that. 4y
