Unexpected! This quirky romance between a curse breaker and an archeologist was charming and different and I really enjoyed it! Danan always surprises me with the way she approaches a story and it is always a great time.

3 ✨ First I love how this story ended up playing out. There were many surprises that kept me guessing. However, the main plot was pretty predictable. Not that it was a bad thing because that is how I wanted it to play out. I liked the we got Apollo‘s POV as well this time. After all he has been asleep or “dead” for a lot of the series. Overall, I enjoyed the series. #SeriesLove 🥰
This book started strong — lots of new fairy tale elements, angst, a quest or two. Evangeline‘s growth over the series is really rewarding, and the complexity of the plot as it progresses is really engaging. I will say that about two thirds through the book, things seemed to lose momentum, and the end felt a little rushed. Plus, lots of loose ends with side characters—although maybe they‘ll get books of their own? A soft pick, but a great series.
This fairy tale gets increasingly darker in this instalment, with curses and bad luck and all manner of lies and tricks and pitfalls. Evangeline and Jacks seem truly doomed, which surely means they‘ll get their ever after? Maybe eventually…Garber keeps the tensions very finely tuned in this book, which speeds along at a far clip. I loved Evangeline‘s growth as a person, and didn‘t anticipate that final twist. Jumped right into the next book…
There aren‘t many surprises in this ghost story. Pretty early on, we know what happened in the past, and how it has affected a family‘s lives whose ancestors committed unspeakable crimes. In Ms Sandeen‘s capable hands, I didn‘t care; she writes so well, and creates such deep characters!
With her Chicago life in ruins, Jermaine Barker accepts job offer from the Duchovny family that seems too good to be true and of course it is — breaking a curse.
3✨This had an interesting transition from continuing from the first book to the cliffhanger for the next book. It continued to bring up the archer and the Fox consistently along with other concepts that were over used. The story itself became really interesting and I‘m not sure I completely understand the wish that may or may not have been made. The time jumping gets me confused everytime! The ending! Where‘s the next book! 🤣
But sometimes things must break before they can be made whole again, so that they can be forged into something stronger.
“When you said my name... the stone within me suffered a crack. And I don't regret that it did, because I had forgotten how vital it is to be known for who you are, and not for who you pretend to be. I had forgotten how good it is to be seen, even with flaws and scars. I wanted you to see me.”
"It will make you colder. But even the deepest of ice eventually gives way to fire, Clementine."
