Catching up on the weekends reading- this was my #doublespin for Aug and I found it absolutely riveting! Probably not for everyone but I found it genuinely suspenseful & also enjoyed the extracts from various diaries of those on the original Endurance expedition!

TheAromaofBooks Ooooo I am definitely going to get a copy of this for my husband! He and my dad and my brothers and my grandpa literally all took turns reading Endurance last year and they all were so into it that I didn't even bother reading it myself because every time I saw any of them they started telling me more about it 😂 6mo
bekakins @TheAromaofBooks amazing! He will definitely enjoy it if he was interested by the original expedition story! 6mo

Mensun Bound was the Director of Exploration to attempt to find Ernest Shackleton‘s shipwreck at the bottom of an Antarctic sea, the Endurance, which sank during his attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole. This book covers both attempts in 2019 (unsuccessful) & 2022, which was successful. The 2022 search was bookended first by the pandemic, and then the Russian invasion of Ukraine, both affecting the morale of the crew. Even so they ⬇️

Texreader persevered through extreme conditions and amazingly discovered it. I‘m sad I don‘t remember it in the news. I too was overwrought about the Russian invasion. This probably won‘t be a favorite of mine, the book can be extremely technical, and you have to know a lot of boating terms, which escape me. But I appreciated the history, and the palpable joy from the author from finding the ship. This is my 2nd book for #Antarctica #readingOceania 12mo
Librarybelle I don‘t remember the discovery mentioned in the news either! 12mo

I started this audiobook today for #Antarctica #readingOceania. I decided to forego Greta and Valdin. I‘ve read way too many books on #NewZealand (6 or 7) and once I started listening to it I wasn‘t too keen on it. This will be only my second book for Antarctica

3.5/5 stars, rounded up. There‘s a lot to like about this book- the exploration of Antártica, the danger of sailing through ice to find Endurance, the Shackleton history, and the discovery of the Endurance and its state. I oscillated between “This is so cool,” to, “This is such a waste of resources.” Though the light and beauty of Antártica sounded cool, the ice and weather ruled out all future travel there for me.

Here's the thing with this book - It's a simplified version of some things we can try to implement to increase our functional potential. It does not address all the obstacles that hinder each individual from achieving their goals with nutrition or fitness. The advice is not for everyone depending on your goals or situation. It's one guy's opinion based on his experience and basic-level research, nothing more. ⬇️ (Cont'd in comments) ⬇️

jitteryjane724 HOWEVER, after reading this book I do feel more inspired to find smart ways to challenge and exceed my current limitations. And that is enough for me to recommend this book. 2y

The last time I read this I knew nothing about anatomy, kinesiology, or strength&endurance training. Now I have a doctorate in something related to that...looking forward to re-reading (and learning) from a different perspective this time (and I always love a good inspirational book)!
