Today was one of those days I dread because of my anxiety. Lucky for me, I have great new friends to make me laugh & distract me. Considering I haven‘t known either very long, one already knows me well enough to suggest a trip to the local book store to help me re-center myself. I am very happy I found these beauties (friends & books) 😉💖📚. Impulse book buys are my fave! The tagged book & The Silent Patient are on TBR for #LitsyAtoZ

Panic70 I hope tomorrow is a better day. Sounds like you did a bit of self care with some book shopping. Which actually sounds like a great day. 😁 3h
CoverToCoverGirl Enjoy your new friends 😊 I wish I could have gone with you all to the bookstore.. I wonder what books I missed out on!? 🤗 3h
marleed I‘m glad you have new friends and books! 2h
SquidgetsRoom @Panic70 thanks, me too. Anything books/bookstores related are often my only actual self care. Overall it was a productive day with great friends & that‘s what counts. Anxiety is just a part of daily life & unfortunately I suck at “coping” with it. Books are always a bonus & help me clear my head. I‘m very glad to have new friends too @marleed. @CoverToCoverGirl “Over 100,000 Titles in Stock!" You would love it!! ????

I found a gorgeous new-looking copy of this book at my local used bookstore, saw it was by Neil Gaiman and had to have it. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and this was such a cool twist on Sleeping Beauty. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes graphic novels and fantasy/fairytale retellings. 5⭐️

This was my second read of The Lunar Chronicles. I love this scifi/fantasy that incorporates 4 different fairy tale leading ladies with a futuristic rebellion against the evil Queen of the moon.

hannah-leeloo Wait.... Your second read of the series. Winter is book 4 hun. Am I just confused? Lol 4d
Cheshirecat913 @hannah-leeloo I read the other 3 books before Winter, just didn't post them. 😄 4d

Such beautiful artwork! And I love the idea behind this retelling. I‘m a huge fan of Gaiman, and this is probably my least favorite of his work in terms of writing, but it‘s still pretty cool.

I found this to be a very compelling read even though it‘s a bit more ephemeral than I usually go for (the plot and the prose just sort of float along). But it started to go downhill for me after it switched back to Boy‘s point of view in the last section (I‘d really rather hear from Snow at this point). And then that final reveal? Eeeeeesh. This probably still would have been a pick, if not for that.

khooliha Yeah, that final reveal -really- put me off and pretty much completely soured a book I was loving otherwise. 6d

I‘m not really sure what to make of it, but it‘s still a pick. I think I expected the fairy tales to play a bigger part instead of only getting a glimpse of them now and then. Instead Oyeyemi explores themes like female relationships and race - I would have liked a narrower focus. But I still enjoyed her writing so much.

readordierachel I really want to read this one! 6d

Reading this for the retelling of a fairy tale by an author of color prompt, since this is allegedly a retelling a Snow White. #readharder2020

khooliha I am interested to hear what you end up thinking of this one! 1w

This was a long book and needed to be two. One book to focus on Winter, the character. The other to build the climax and detail the final interactions between Cinder & Queen Levana AND Earth & Luna. By the time I reached chapter 60, I had reader's fatigue; there are 97-or-so chapters! Meyer uses empathy and creativity, but the resolution of the whole series really deserved its own book. #dw2020reads #audiobook

How ironic... #audioshoveling while listening to Winter by Marissa Meyer.
