I know this wasn't the intent of the #freezerworthyhorror category, but as a high school teacher this fits the bill for me. Even though it was difficult, I'm so glad I read this very well-researched book. So many misconceptions have been floating around in media for so long, it was good to hear more solid facts and not just panic fuelled rumours that inevitability masquerade as facts after a terrible event. #litsy2017readingchallenge #toughstuff

This book should be read in the daytime, with lots of sun shining in through the windows, in a house full of other people. Not like I did, in the dark, in a house with strange noises and the only other person present was a sleeping 10 year old. This was scary, atmospheric and awesome. I felt chilled to my bone, and I could see spooky women standing everywhere.

The Terror: A Novel | Dan Simmons

The tree is done, and so is this book. 😃

I absolutely loved The Terror. This copy had been languishing on my shelf for 9 years...but I read it for my #freezerworthyhorror square for #litsyreadingchallenge2017.

Definitely creepy, but also very well-written historical fiction. I had strong feelings about several characters as they tried to survive their long, thrilling Arctic adventure.

The audio is awesome, too!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

vivastory I'm just starting this one! 6y
sprainedbrain @vivastory I hope you love it! I just saw it‘s being made in to a miniseries... super excited about that! 6y
vivastory They've been talking about that for awhile. Hopefully it happens. I'm really in the mood for a door stopper horror novel, this sounds perfect! 6y

Reagan Fun side note, they recently found both the Terror and the Erebus. I believe the British government has given the right over to 🇨🇦! Very cool! 6y
sprainedbrain @Reagan-reads I saw that...I did a lot of googling this week as I read the book. 😃 6y
Reagan @sprainedbrain yes, I got a little obsessed after I read the book. It‘s fascinating. 6y

The Haunting of Hill House | Shirley Jackson

I read this for my #freezerworthyhorror selection for the #litsyreadingchallenge. I am too chicken to read horror so I had put this off for quite awhile but decided that with Halloween coming up now was as good a time as any. This turned out to be as much a psychological thriller as a paranormal one and I ended up really enjoying it. I had only read The Lottery by Shirley Jackson previously but really want to read her other works now too.

emilyhaldi I love her writing!! 7y

Such a well written account of the Clutter murders. The descriptions of the murders were enough for me to use this for the #freezerworthyhorror box in #litsyreadingchallenge. My first Capote, but I borrowed Breakfast at Tiffany‘s from the library yesterday.

This is my #freezerworthyhorror for #litsyreadingchallenge2017 - after this, I'll have just my free space to fill. I love the cover on the book. I kinda think the monster is cute.

I just finished my last book for September, partly because I wanted it on the September list but mostly because I had to know what happened! This is not my genre of choice, but I did enjoy this book. Creepy and definitely glad I did not end up reading it during the Christmas season, since it just might suck out all the joy of that time of year.

Theresa I read this for my #freezerworthyhorror, too. It was creepy!! 7y
Daisey @Theresa So creepy, but I might have to read another by Joe Hill sometime just because the story was fascinating! 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 I hear such good things about this book! I need to read it! 7y
Theresa Me too. I haven't decided which one, tho. I did the audiobook & Kate Mulgrew did a great job with the narration, so I might look for another one that she narrates. 7y
Booksbooksbooks I just started this, I‘m so relieved that it is good! 7y

I normally don't read horror, but I do like dystopian fiction, so this was a cross-over I could roll with. Dont want to give much away, but it was reminiscent of Never Let Me Go with more gore plus Station Eleven with less theatre. Loved how the relationships between the characters evolved and how Melanie comes to terms with who she is and why she has been treated the way she has. Terrifying and resonant. #lrcbingo #freezerworthyhorror
