I am unsure if I would read this book to an entire class of students because of its heavy content about death. However, I think this book would be good to read one-on-one with a student who has experienced the death of a pet or animal in general.
The children were very sorry the bird was dead and could never fly again. But they were glad they had found it, because now they could dig a grave in the woods and bury it.
pickThe illustrations look like cartoons, which is a good way to keep children fascinated. I thought this book was simple and easy to follow. It talks about the hard topic of death with a bird. But it can show children how to make light of something sad. I would read this to my class.
This book does a great job at not “dumbing“ a topic down just for children. It talks about the death of a bird and how the children made a funeral for it. It's a great way for children to understand death and not beat around the bush with this topic.

The five remaining friends can each have their own “funeral” with the goal that nothing is left unsaid and they reaffirm how much they mean to each other. Heartbreaking, but also positive.

This book explores the various ways that people have chosen to dispose of their remains and the impacts that decision has on the people they have left behind. This book is an excellent choice for anyone that loves morbid conversations or non-fiction that explores a specific career.
so-soA group of friends gathers for the funeral of one of their college crew who died way too young. They make a pact to continue holding “funerals” for each other to honor those friendships while they are still alive and able to hear how they are loved. This was just so-so for me. Read it for book club and found more to appreciate as we discussed, but the characters didn‘t really grab me and the dialogue and humor felt a bit too contrived and clunky.
pickSince I DNF'ed my original choice for this prompt (too scary!!), this book worked just fine for #52bookclub24 #includesapersonalphobia. Skydiving. Enough said!
Overall, I enjoyed this one, though it did start out pretty slow for me. I definitely preferred “The Guncle“ to this, but it was still worth reading. And it was my #bookspin pick for June!
