My husband and I started our anniversary weekend by doing some ghost hunting at Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana. It is a beautiful, peaceful place, but I did not get much sleep. 👻

This is a non-fiction retelling of what happened when an English housewife suddenly began experiencing poltergeist activity in her home. This happened at a time when mediums and seances were popular in the UK and just prior to the first stirrings of WW 2. A prominent psychic investigator decided to look into the case. Lots of clever deception with Freudian overtones makes an interesting study of human nature. Four stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️ this tale was slow starting but kept me wanting to find out what happens. a young woman finds out her life with her father wasn‘t fully true. she finds out her mother has been looking for her. her whole world is flipped.
mystery of what happened when she was a little girl that made her dad take her away.
the ending was a little disappointing. 🙁

“They are real,” George insists, “and they do inflict evil when the opportunity presents itself.”

This was my fourth time reading this. This book is never not scary.

O…M…GEE! @BookmarkTavern I love EVERYTHING!!! Mexican Gothic has been top of my list since its release, Grady Hendrix is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, & I completely forgot about Ghostland, but it was on my Goodreads TBR. The bookmarks & plushie are so cute, & I love the candle. The movie is the first thing I‘ll watch after the World Series is over (I can‘t believe I‘ve never seen it). Upfront I‘ll say I‘m a skeptic…I WANT to believe in ghosts and psychics, but I don‘t think I do. And this author‘s constant claims to have psychic abilities, backed up by only the flimsiest of evidence, annoyed me.
Take all that out, though, and this is a fun compilation of stories, akin to those “America‘s Most Haunted” specials on The Travel Channel (which I LOVE to binge watch during spooky season), and the perfect Halloween read.
