Astonishing! This book reads like a spy novel but it is all true! The bravery and fortitude demonstrated by this American woman fighting for France in WW2 had me cheering for her the whole way while at the same time wanting to shake some sense into her superiors. She single handed my changed the course of the war and managed to turn the tide in several fronts in France. And so we‘ll researched and written! Read this book! #herstory ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Full disclosure, I‘ve had this book checked out for almost a year (perks of working at the library oops), so I figured it was finally time to actually read it. I‘m three pages into the prologue and I‘m already sitting here like “yaaaaas Madam Speaker.” 😍🤷🏻‍♀️ #pelosi #mollyball #nancypelosi #madamspeaker #speakerofthehouse #resistancequeen #womeninpolitics #herstory #awomansplaceisinthehouseandthesenate #womenincongress

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was such a good story. Johnson told her story with such passion and humility. It was simply beautiful. It truly caused me to miss my grandmother as I think their voices were very similar. I encourage everyone to read it. It‘s very accessible so young readers (maybe 10+) should be able to handle it as well. #blitsy #goodblackreads #blacklitsy #herstory

As a woman who has lived with mental health issues since her early teens (and now a History degree), I've always been interested in the history of women's mental health and the 'treatments' forced upon them.
This book has been on my TBR shelf for over a year (along with Hysteria by Andrew Scull & Mad, Bad, and Sad by Lisa Appignanesi) until I felt the time was right for me to really dive into the subject. Now is that time.

I love memoirs that involve travel, especially when the traveler respects the culture they're visiting. This is a beautiful book about going to the ends of the earth for healing and the unexpected things that happen when we're open to anything. It begs the question, what would you do to save your life?
