dabbe Maybe the moms die to spur the children to grow up and go on their quest. Victor's mom definitely did that for him. I find it interesting, too, that Victor ignores the warnings of his first professor, Krempe, just as Walton seems to ignore Victor: both are blinded by their ambition to gain glory.
