ElizaMarie Okay, so May suspects, but what does she do about it? Do you think she is siding with the family against Ellen because of this suspicion? Like, secretly (or not so), she wants Ellen to be destitute, to financial and societal ruin? Or just to get her to leave? Either way? 4d
See All 13 Comments
Bookwormjillk @ElizaMarie The passage with may at the end where it said what she said in one phrase and then said what she meant in about 2 paragraphs was so interesting. I'm not sure she even knows what she wants though other than to maybe keep up appearances and practice archery in peace? 4d
Cuilin “They smell less if one blows them out”!!!!!!! Methinks May wants rid of Ellen. (edited) 4d
mcctrish I love how Archer knows exactly what May is saying even though she‘s saying nothing, AS IF! Nobody talks about anything, how would he know what goes unspoken #utternonsense but his guilt is talking loud in his head, that‘s for sure 4d
lil1inblue @Cuilin 🎯😏 4d
lil1inblue @mcctrish Exactly! His arrogance is beyond the pale. #dick 4d
lil1inblue “Archer's New York tolerated hypocrisy in private relations; but in business matters it exacted a limpid and impeccable honesty.“ So Beaufort can be a #cheatingcheaterwhocheats at home and no one gives a fork, but he can't fail in business! How horrid! #shameshame 4d
mcctrish @lil1inblue at least they are worrying about Beaufort‘s wife now being left penniless ( as opposed to when he was gallivanting around town and throwing money at women who weren‘t her) 4d
lil1inblue @mcctrish I felt like they were less worried about Beaufort's wife, and more worried about the disgrace to the family name. #horrors 4d
Clare-Dragonfly They‘re worried about Beaufort‘s wife being ostracized by his screw-ups. But they could choose not to ostracize her 🙄 4d

lil1inblue Archer wants to kiss Ellen's ribbon. 🤣🤣🤣 I can't get that out of my head for some reason. Also, I had to look into the symbolism of yellow roses. Apparently, in the Victorian Era they were associated with jealousy and betrayal. 🤔 2w
dabbe @lil1inblue Ooh, that's interesting! 💛🏵️💛 2w

mcctrish I laughed out loud at archer wants to kiss Ellen‘s ribbon @lil1inblue that is serious code for kink 2w
lil1inblue @mcctrish OMG. I did not even realize what I said. 🙃🙃🙃 But I guess it fits, too. We know what Archer really wants. 🤣🤣🤣 #ithasbeenalongday 2w
Clare-Dragonfly Did he get her to drop the divorce??? They keep saying “I know what you mean” “you know what I mean” and I am concerned they‘re talking about total opposite things. 2w
Ruthiella @Clare-Dragonfly I am also unsure if they really communicated there. Archer takes her silence for an admission of an extramarital affair. But what if she was just being quiet? 2w
lil1inblue @ElizaMarie 😅🙃🤭 2w

Cuilin To be in that society sounds exhausting!!!! Also if you were a performer can you imagine how distracting it would be with everybody just showing up and leaving whenever. And owning a house in Manhattan big enough to have a ballroom is hard to imagine today. 4w
mcctrish @Cuilin it‘s almost exhausting to read about society - did Archer and #winoforever ‘s cousin have a relationship? 4w
See All 11 Comments
Ruthiella It does sound exhausting and performative. I read this years ago and saw the movie when it came out. I remember the basic outline of the plot but none of these details. 4w
JacqMac It doesn‘t just sound exhausting, but also uncomfortable. 4w
JenlovesJT47 Yay I‘m caught up! 4w
Bookwormjillk New flex is hosting a ball but going to the opera instead of helping my staff get ready 4w
Clare-Dragonfly @Bookwormjillk But only, like, one scene of the opera. 4w
ElizaMarie @Cullin that‘s what I was thinking too- they are horrible audience members! 4w
julieclair @Cuilin @ElizaMarie It seems like the opera was only an excuse to see and be seen, and then gossip about whom you saw and who saw you. So disrespectful to the performers. But I don‘t think these people worried much about disrespecting people who were “beneath” them. 4w
Cuilin @julieclair @ElizaMarie yes, they probably see performers as some form of servant existing to cater to them. Ugh 4w

ElizaMarie I am curious about the story behind Preston 2mo
Bklover I have to admit I rather enjoyed Clare getting snubbed! 2mo
See All 10 Comments
willaful Cynthia definitely has something of her mother's ruthless disregard for other people's feelings, though she did try to make up for it.

@Bklover Yes, some satisfaction. Wow, there aint no climber like a social climber 'cause a social climber don't stop!
2mo
dabbe @Bklover 🎯🩵🎯! 2mo
mcctrish #notarealclare and Cynthia are double trouble imo @ElizaMarie I too am very curious about the mystery surrounding Preston ( I am happy the note came from him and not Roger ) 2mo
julieclair @ElizaMarie @mcctrish Me too. I really want to know what their story is. 2mo
julieclair This ball is going to be so much fun! #WhatCouldGoWrong #ThePossibilitiesAreEndless 2mo

dabbe @mcctrish I see some major emotional explosion coming soon down the Hollingford road! 2mo
willaful Before I was getting Emma vibes, now I'm getting Mansfield Park vibes. 2mo
Bklover Osborne and Roger can be such idiots! Poor Molly! 2mo
Lcsmcat @willaful Very Mansfield Park-like! Except Molly has more spirit than Fanny. 2mo
willaful @Lcsmcat She's no Fanny but she may be just as bad at being in a love-triangle. No idea what to do at all, poor dear. 2mo

Cuilin @BarkingMadRead I‘m trying to figure out if Mrs. Gibson would be upset or pleased??? 🤔 2mo
Bookwormjillk @Cuilin Oh! I didn't even think of that! 2mo
mcctrish @Cuilin this was my first thought too!!!!cuz if daughter is anything like her mother she‘d be bleeding the boy dry 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly @Cuilin Ooh, that makes sense! She‘s definitely too low-born for his dad so that would be why he has to keep her secret. 2mo
Cuilin @mcctrish exactly!!! 2mo
rubyslippersreads @Cuilin @BarkingMadRead I think she might have been pleased before Osborne destroyed the family fortune. 😏 2mo
rubyslippersreads I was worried that Molly would go home without any books. (The worst fate a Litten could imagine!) I‘m glad Roger chose some for her. 2mo
ElizaMarie @Cuilin ooooooo I hope it is her! That would be a perfect twist and explain the $$$$ 2mo
Bklover @rubyslippersreads Me too! I wondered why she set them down. I‘d take as many as I could carry!😉😂 2mo

ElizaMarie Call me momma!? WHAT! I do not like this woman! And Again with the Cheese!!! 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly She‘s so annoying! Oh, I‘d be totally happy to keep Betty, if only she would attend to my every whim! 🙄 And can the Gibsons afford this maid she wants to hire? Doesn‘t seem like she‘s thought about what is affordable, just how much she needs to spend to get her away from her current employer. 2mo
julieclair This whole chapter made me sad. 😕 2mo
Bklover @mcctrish You said it!! 😂. Would have been a short book though!! 2mo

Clare-Dragonfly @willaful My thoughts exactly! 3mo
willaful @Bookwormjillk I'm wondering if she actually going to pull off making him happy, just because she's generally so good at it. I'm honestly surprised he's not sick of her already, given he's not much for demonstrations of affection, but then again, he has been single for a long time... 3mo
Ruthiella @willaful @Clare-Dragonfly I thought of Emma too! 😂 And yes to @mcctrish @ElizaMarie SO MANY RED FLAGS 🚩‼️ ⛔️⚠️🚨 3mo

mcctrish @Cuilin you said it!!!! Roger is a star ⭐️ #gettingcinderellavibes 3mo
willaful Ugh, he doesn't know DIDDLY about her actual character! At least we don't have to call her Clare anymore. #UghHyacinth

Roger is a sweetheart. I'm kind of irritated by Molly, but I tend to hate gooey father-daughter relationships. It's not really her fault she's been spoiled.
(edited) 3mo
Bklover @willaful I‘m with you on the gooey relationship with Dad. And Dad appears to be an idiot! It‘s not like he‘s poor and marrying for money! 3mo
willaful @Bklover It's hypocritical of me because I have a gooey mother-daughter relationship, lol. 3mo
Bklover @willaful Me too!!! 3mo
willaful @Bklover 😂 😂 😂 💝 3mo
LiteraryChanteuse Great book, great mini series. 😊 3mo
Ruthiella This is not a good match! 😱 3mo
Lcsmcat @Cuilin 😂🤣😂 So true! 3mo
ElizaMarie That proposal sucked! 3mo
Bookwormjillk I feel like Hyacinth is such a passive aggressive thing to name a character you don‘t like. No offense to any Hyacinths out there. 3mo
julieclair Oh Gibson, Gibson…. SUCH a bad idea. Why didn‘t you ask us first? We‘d have told you not to do it. 😵‍💫 3mo

Clare-Dragonfly @mcctrish Yes!!! Poor Bethia didn‘t deserve any consequences other than having the letter taken from her. 3mo
