mcctrish What to do, what to do? I love how Stephen is mad at Maggie #whatamaroon 17h
Ruthiella I feel like Stephen crossed a line there by showing up and it makes me mad. He‘s putting Maggie in a bad situation-one he can walk away from as a man, but she as a woman cannot live down. She will be unfairly judged either way. 15h
See All 12 Comments
mcctrish @Ruthiella and it‘s not the first time either 🤬 Phillip has noticed and he isn‘t blameless either #tomisgoingtolosehisshit #andstillblamemaggie 15h
TheAromaofBooks Side note, still trying to figure out why the heck Tom is the most important person in Maggie's life. Let's make all our decisions based on what the judgmental jerk who treats you like trash will think 🙄 15h
ElizaMarie @TheAromaofBooks yes!!! I mean how close do you have to stay with your mean brother? She needs to choose her own family. 15h
Ruthiella @TheAromaofBooks I agree and it is frustrating. I think Eliot is telling us that Maggie‘s bond with her brother is stronger than any other ( other than to her father, now deceased). 15h
Bookwormjillk @TheAromaofBooks YES!! Granted the rest of that family would side with him if he tells them to, but Maggie has proven that she can survive on her own. Gritty is the only one who makes sense in this book. 14h
mcctrish @TheAromaofBooks women just being programmed by the patriarchy to do what the men in the family say ( Maggie needs Tom more than he needs her ) 14h
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk she totally has proven she can survive on her own 14h
dabbe The Stephen-Maggie thing has RUTH vibes all over it. Don't give in, Maggie! If only it were the 2020s! 😱 14h
Clare-Dragonfly Ugh! I am SO mad at Stephen now! How dare he show up and tell her she has to talk to him because his poor little manly fee-fees are hurt. How dare he blame her for him riding thirty miles a day about it. Get over yourself, dude. 😡😡😡😡🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻 8h

Bookwormjillk Lucy is so dumb!!! She's going to mess everything up. Ugh. 5d
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk I just think the world revolves around Lucy so despite her telling her dad she‘s a smarty, she is clueless also Stephen is toxic 5d
See All 8 Comments
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish yup, a toxic man playing toxic games 5d
dabbe At first, the original love triangle reminded me of the one in THE AGE OF INNOCENCE. Now with Philip, I'm like 😳. I think we're headed for a fall. 4d
ElizaMarie I am not into this Stephen dude- he is gonna cause so much trouble 4d
Clare-Dragonfly I don‘t totally blame Stephen for not acting well—his attraction to Maggie is pretty new and he doesn‘t know what to do with it. But I sure hope he shapes up soon and realizes he has to make a choice! (Or preferably leave them both alone because picking one is definitely going to cause drama.) 4d
Leftcoastzen Kind of a mixed up situation! I agree Lucy is clueless.Lots of potential for heartache and hurt feelings here . 4d

mcctrish I‘m so happy Phil has friends and he and Maggie can be friends again too 2w
julieclair I am so hoping Maggie and Phil can have a happy reunion. 🤞 2w

Bookwormjillk Not thinking this will go well 2w
BarkingMadRead @julieclair I hope so too! 2w
Clare-Dragonfly I‘m glad Phil has friends and Maggie is still close with her cousin! I think things will be very awkward when they show up at the same place. Laughing at the boyfriend‘s descriptions of what he thinks Maggie will be like. 2w
Leftcoastzen Well , we shall see!😄 1w
ElizaMarie Hmm- I am going to guess its gonna be so awkward. 1w

mcctrish #tetchytully takes the easy road out again 2w
Leftcoastzen Doesn‘t take a lot of thought to wonder since father fought with Wakem & Wakem owns the property they may get turned out. Tom did the hard work to earn the money to pay the debt . And this is his reward? Tully just had to fight to his own detriment 😡 2w
See All 8 Comments
Bookwormjillk Ugh. Fricken #TetchyTully 2w
ElizaMarie Wow! Okay, so I kinda felt blindsided with this. I mean the fight was coming, we know that, but... to have been so worked up that he ups and dies! And of course his #PigHeadedness totally screws his family over. Not to speak ill about the dead but... Talk about #DadOfTheYear 2w
Clare-Dragonfly Jeez! I wonder if I‘d feel differently if we‘d actually seen depictions of how Wakem treats #tetchytully as his employee over the years but as it is… Tully is a freaking idiot jerk. 2w
eeclayton @barkingmadread lovely image choice for today 😍 2w
BarkingMadRead @eeclayton thank you! Pops kept mentioning that Tim should save the mill, so I thought it would be a good pic for the chapter! 2w

mcctrish I‘d like to HEA wrap this up but we are only 2/3 through it so obviously it‘s all going to hell 2w
ElizaMarie Awe --- this little love story can only end in disaster! (Waiting patiently for all hell to break loose) 2w

BarkingMadRead @mcctrish with as many pages are left, it‘s definitely going to be a dumpster fire 🔥 2w
AllDebooks I can't look, this is gonna be a train wreck 🙈 2w
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish they‘re all going to drown in the river 2w
Bookwormjillk I think it‘s going to be worse for her when Tom finds out than when #tetchytully finds out 2w
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk I think Tom will give her the most grief too 2w
Clare-Dragonfly So… last chapter Maggie said no, they can‘t meet up because keeping secrets is bad, and a year later they‘re meeting regularly and happily discussing books? What did I miss? 😵‍💫 2w

Ruthiella I‘m kind of proud of old Bob too. Aunt G. was so rude and condescending. 2w
mcctrish Bob knows a thing or two about 2w

Leftcoastzen That damn family ! So condescending! Tom is really trying, Bob is helping, yet still worried about them 2w
Bookwormjillk Loved it. Go Bob. 2w
ElizaMarie Ugh Aunt G is the worst! #VillianVibes - I'm also proud of Bob 🙃 2w
julieclair I so enjoyed watching Bob get the better of Aunt G! 2w

ElizaMarie Not that I want something bad to happen -- but... something happening might be cool, so #FingersCrossed someone gets a little flesh wound? 1mo
Clare-Dragonfly I am worried that someone will get hurt! 1mo
eeclayton @ElizaMarie I agree. While I enjoy the character studies, I would love for something to happen already. 1mo
ElizaMarie @eeclayton YES!!! I am glad I am not the only one! 1mo
Leftcoastzen Made me think of my parents “ hey put that down, you‘ll poke your eye out!” Or in this case , cut your arm off ? Funny/not funny 1mo
mcctrish @ElizaMarie while I might have said “oh FFS Mr Poulter that was stupid” you aren‘t wrong about wanting to have something happen. @Bookwormjillk can‘t see this going right 1mo
julieclair I have visions of Maggie playing with the sword… 😳 1mo

dabbe New hashtag name: #tetchytully or #testytully Anyone like either? 1mo
BarkingMadRead #tetchytully gets my vote 🤣 @dabbe 1mo
Bookwormjillk @dabbe #tetchytully because it makes me think of the Teletubbies which adds something to the book 1mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk @BarkingMadRead I think it's more fun-sounding out loud, too! 🤣 It could even sound like #touchytully! 1mo
mcctrish I love it #tetchytully he always has a bee in his bonnet 1mo
ElizaMarie Oooo love this @dabbe 1mo
Leftcoastzen I just feel Tully is always upset because he‘s not rich , he has just enough money to worry about it . Diverting water from the mill threatens his livelihood. He doesn‘t have enough money to be connected as to advice, is this a good educator? Is this a good lawyer. 1mo

TheAromaofBooks Why is everyone in this book so unlikable 😂 3mo
See All 23 Comments
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks seriously! She‘s an asshole magnet 🤣 3mo
Cuilin @TheAromaofBooks thank you for saying that I wholeheartedly agree! 3mo
Cuilin The line let me fly with you would have been very sweet and cute if the question had not been “how would you like to be Mrs. Buddy Willard?” and completely erasing her. 😣 3mo
BarkingMadRead @Cuilin everything about this chapter made me want to scream 🤣 3mo
Bookwormjillk Usually I‘m annoyed with her but firmly on Team Ester in this chapter. Was that jerk happy she broke her leg?? 3mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I totally got that vibe, like he was glad to be able to do some doctoring 🙄 3mo
Cuilin @Bookwormjillk seemed like a metaphor for breaking her, now doesn‘t get to run away!!! 3mo
mcctrish First how does one get well in such an absolutely disgusting sounding place, second who the hell trusts someone to teach them to ski who doesn‘t know how?! Who stepped in front of her? Buddy? Honest to god Ester, stay away from this dumbass (edited) 3mo
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish I read it twice and couldn‘t figure out who stepped in front of her 3mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk it was the man saying “you were doing fine until the guy stepped in your path” not skied, stepped made me think it was Buddy (edited) 3mo
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish good clue 3mo
willaful I was kind of caught in wondering why Esther seemed more upset about Buddy's hypocrisy than about what happened in this chapter. But maybe she's letting herself realize things slowly because they're so freaking awful. 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly Wow, Buddy is an idiot! He shakes her hand when she comes in, tries to give her an ashtray he made, and then asks her to marry him in the most unromantic way possible?! Not to mention the skiing failure. Esther said in the last chapter that she broke her own leg but Buddy clearly broke it! 😂 3mo
CogsOfEncouragement I‘m enjoying the reading and all of your comments. This is my first time reading, and I‘m glad I‘m among friends to do so! 3mo
ElizaMarie Ugh!!! Buddy Buddy Buddy —- He is such a pompous man. 3mo
AnishaInkspill @BarkingMadRead thanks for tagging me into these posts, this is brilliant as I don't have the to read this this year but i could never get tired of reading this and what always comes to mind is Esther's dry wit. 3mo
DieAReader @TheAromaofBooks 💖I thought I was alone in not liking anyone😂 3mo
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement 🩶💚🩶 3mo
dabbe This part teared me up: “I felt my lungs inflate with the inrush of scenery--air, mountains, trees, people. I thought, 'This is what it is to be happy.' I plummeted down past the zigzaggers, the students, the experts, through year after year of doubleness and smiles and compromise, into my own past.“

Wow, can she write.
