TheAromaofBooks Why is everyone in this book so unlikable 😂 6d
See All 23 Comments
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks seriously! She‘s an asshole magnet 🤣 6d
Cuilin @TheAromaofBooks thank you for saying that I wholeheartedly agree! 6d
Cuilin The line let me fly with you would have been very sweet and cute if the question had not been “how would you like to be Mrs. Buddy Willard?” and completely erasing her. 😣 6d
BarkingMadRead @Cuilin everything about this chapter made me want to scream 🤣 6d
Bookwormjillk Usually I‘m annoyed with her but firmly on Team Ester in this chapter. Was that jerk happy she broke her leg?? 6d
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I totally got that vibe, like he was glad to be able to do some doctoring 🙄 6d
Cuilin @Bookwormjillk seemed like a metaphor for breaking her, now doesn‘t get to run away!!! 6d
mcctrish First how does one get well in such an absolutely disgusting sounding place, second who the hell trusts someone to teach them to ski who doesn‘t know how?! Who stepped in front of her? Buddy? Honest to god Ester, stay away from this dumbass (edited) 6d
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish I read it twice and couldn‘t figure out who stepped in front of her 5d
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk it was the man saying “you were doing fine until the guy stepped in your path” not skied, stepped made me think it was Buddy (edited) 5d
willaful I was kind of caught in wondering why Esther seemed more upset about Buddy's hypocrisy than about what happened in this chapter. But maybe she's letting herself realize things slowly because they're so freaking awful. 5d
Clare-Dragonfly Wow, Buddy is an idiot! He shakes her hand when she comes in, tries to give her an ashtray he made, and then asks her to marry him in the most unromantic way possible?! Not to mention the skiing failure. Esther said in the last chapter that she broke her own leg but Buddy clearly broke it! 😂 5d
CogsOfEncouragement I‘m enjoying the reading and all of your comments. This is my first time reading, and I‘m glad I‘m among friends to do so! 5d
ElizaMarie Ugh!!! Buddy Buddy Buddy —- He is such a pompous man. 5d
AnishaInkspill @BarkingMadRead thanks for tagging me into these posts, this is brilliant as I don't have the to read this this year but i could never get tired of reading this and what always comes to mind is Esther's dry wit. 5d
DieAReader @TheAromaofBooks 💖I thought I was alone in not liking anyone😂 5d
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement 🩶💚🩶 5d
dabbe This part teared me up: “I felt my lungs inflate with the inrush of scenery--air, mountains, trees, people. I thought, 'This is what it is to be happy.' I plummeted down past the zigzaggers, the students, the experts, through year after year of doubleness and smiles and compromise, into my own past.“

Wow, can she write.

Bookwormjillk I‘m worried for our girl. Hard to stop at one today! (edited) 2w
See All 17 Comments
mcctrish It sure was a fast start 😬 2w
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk @mcctrish more happened in this chapter than the whole last book 🤣 It was hard to stop reading! 2w
TheKidUpstairs One of my all time favourite books, with one of my all time favourite first lines ❤ 2w
BarkingMadRead @TheKidUpstairs it is truly an epic first line! 2w
Clare-Dragonfly What @Bookwormjillk said! 😱 No, no, getting out of the cab to hang out with some guys in a bar is always a bad idea, and going with them to a second location is a worse one! 2w
CogsOfEncouragement This is my first read, and that first line had me googling the Rosenbergs before I moved on to the next. @TheKidUpstairs Such a great opening. I agree @Clare-Dragonfly @Bookwormjillk theater traffic is a much better choice. eek 2w
willaful Very nervous.

Anyone else finding the sense of time off? Not quite sure how to describe it but she's apparently in the present at some points and in the past at others and I seem to have missed the transitions. Might be careless reading on my part.

There was some recent news about Ethel Rosenberg's son trying to prove her innocence....
2w
dabbe @BarkingMadRead #truth 😂😂😂 2w
Cuilin @dabbe @mcctrish something tells me we‘re not in Lark Rise no more!!! (edited) 2w
mcctrish @Cuilin 😂😂 2w
tpixie @willaful interesting about the son. I was just wondering if they were scapegoats or really guilty…. @BarkingMadRead thanks for the article. (edited) 2w
tpixie @willaful thanks! 2w
dabbe @Cuilin Hell no! 😱 2w

Clare-Dragonfly Kind of unsatisfying that Emily doesn‘t have to do anything to get her inheritance… 2mo
Bookwormjillk @Clare-Dragonfly right? All that paperwork with Macaroni for nothing. 2mo
peanutnine I feel like most everything in this book has been a ton of anticipation and buildup with no satisfying pay out @Clare-Dragonfly @Bookwormjillk 2mo
mcctrish @peanutnine absolutely so many words and nothing happens besides crying, fainting and things that can‘t be talked about 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly @peanutnine Yup. That‘s why I‘m not expecting any exciting ghost reveal with Ludo. 2mo

BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella those are all her tears in that picture 🤣🤣🤣 3mo
Ruthiella @BarkingMadRead 🤣🤣🤣 3mo
ElizaMarie I'm behind but I'm gonna catch up tomorrow. Now I know where I should end up!!! 3mo
mcctrish @Ruthiella she is now exhausted by her tears so maybe we can catch a break ( I didn‘t even realize she was crying. Again. ) 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly Macaroni obviously isn‘t going to kill her, because he wouldn‘t inherit her estates (I presume her closest living relative would, and that‘s the mom‘s brother, whom it would be a lot harder to get the property from). But this seems like a lovely place so I‘m suspicious of the niceness. 3mo
Bklover To me this book feels so much like it was written by a man! All the fainting and crying and weak women. And I mean a man back in that time. (edited) 3mo
Bookwormjillk So weird. Glad she made a friend though. Random sea nymph poem inserted here. 3mo
julieclair I‘m glad I don‘t have to “analyze” this book for an English class. I don‘t know what I‘d do about that sea nymph song! 😂 Which, by the way, was sung in the audio version and was completely tuneless! But at least Emily has made a friend. 3mo

Clare-Dragonfly Barnardine is a total jerk! Oh, I will strongly imply I killed her aunt and then get horribly offended when she thinks I killed her aunt. 🙄🙄🙄 3mo
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly the most bizarre conversation ever 🙄 3mo
mcctrish @Clare-Dragonfly Banardo and Annette have a shared ability to say nothing but use a lot of words #bothshouldbeshakennotstirred 3mo
mcctrish And why was dumbass Emily so resistant to walking to where Banardo was minding the gate? #annettegetsherstepsin (edited) 3mo
Bklover @mcctrish 😂😂😂. 3mo
Bklover @BarkingMadRead That IS Annette!! 3mo
BarkingMadRead @Bklover right?!? I can hear her voice in my head whenever Annette talks 🤣 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly @mcctrish 😂😂😂 3mo
Bklover Yes!! Me too! 3mo
TheAromaofBooks My favorite part of today's chapter was when Emily told Annette she needed to stop crying so much 😂 3mo
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 3mo
peanutnine @mcctrish omg they say nothing but use a lot of words 💯🤣 3mo
mcctrish @TheAromaofBooks the pot calling the kettle black 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo

mcctrish Everything is so halfassed in this story! Nobody ever gets the whole story out, nobody reads the papers before burning, describes what‘s in the frame, figures out who‘s been left for dead, actually kills the person they want dead! I‘m just supposed to be happy there were no tears 3mo

Bookwormjillk Long line to poison that dude. Also did I miss why she‘s so determined to find Auntie? Auntie doesn‘t like her except for that one sort of compliment that one time. 3mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I have no idea, if I were Emily, I‘d be trying to escape. Forget auntie. 3mo
AllDebooks Radcliffe is overly fond of the word 'wither'. There has been an awful lot of withering lately 3mo
TheAromaofBooks I honestly kind of admired Emily in this chapter - she's completely terrified but still determined to find her aunt and make sure she's okay. And she seems to be fainting more than crying; haven't decided whether or not that's an improvement 😂 3mo
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks I know, like what‘s worse? The fainting or the crying? At least the fainting takes less time 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly And then there are the times she almost faints but sits down and breathes through it… 3mo

AllDebooks At least we're picking up pace now. Although I have concerns about Emily's 'free-flowing tears'. Maybe Venice should be on high alert with flood warnings. 🤔 3mo
mcctrish The hashtag #nocrying does not apply, as @AllDebooks says ⬆️ the tears were free-flowing #floodwarningsareineffect at two different parts the way things were being described - coming across the army and the revellers outside the window I honest to god thought Valencourt was going to be part of the group 🤣🤣 that would make this a gothic whatever it is 3mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I 💯 thought so too! Ugh I really thought there was no crying, this is what happens when I start the chapter early and finish it in the evening 🤣 3mo
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead Emily really needs to hydrate 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly In case you wondered whether Montoni married Aunt Scumbag for her money, he apparently doesn‘t even like her! 3mo
dabbe @Clare-Dragonfly If she wasn't such a #scmb, I'd almost feel sorry for her, waiting up for her hubby to come home as he ditches her on their first night at his estate. 😂 3mo
Bklover 😢💦😢💦😢💦🌊🌊🌊 3mo
AnishaInkspill I 😍 the photo 3mo

mcctrish This chapter actually worked for me. Auntie makes my head spin with her saying one thing and then taking a 180° 3mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish auntie has things finally getting interesting! 3mo
AllDebooks Finally, something more yhan weeping and walks, walks and weeping! 3mo
Ruthiella @AllDebooks Just wait until she starts spontaneously writing sonnets. (edited) 3mo
CatLass007 Would you please remove me from your tag list for #HashtagBrigade? Everyone is great but I want to cut back on some of my buddy reads. Thanks 😚 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly I had a hard time following all the dialogue in this but I got the gist. Specifically that Auntie is a social-climbing moron. 3mo
dabbe @Clare-Dragonfly Can I add “bitch“ to your most excellent comment? As in #socialclimbingmoronbitch ... #scmb for short (which could also read as “scumbag“). 😄 3mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe 🤣🤣🤣🤣 3mo
Bklover First of all, why does Valencourt keep showing up like a creeper? He always appears from behind a tree or something. Second, Auntie is a scheming witch but at least she‘s interesting- I think she‘s going to be a fun one to hate! 3mo
julieclair @Bklover I freely admit I am hating Auntie and enjoying it! As @dabbe says, #scmb . 😂 3mo
dabbe @julieclair YES! #scmb You know, it's better just thinking it as “scum“! 🤩😂🤗 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly @dabbe Bahahaha, perfect! 😂 3mo
ElizaMarie @bklover! Yes!!! Such a #SneakySneak didn‘t we learn he has good breeding? Why are you such a #WeirdoCreeper !? 3mo
ElizaMarie Also. I am numb to tears and weeping…. 3mo

Bookwormjillk Did JK Rowling steal this chapter for that one book where Dumbledore doesn‘t tell Harry anything because Voldemort can read his mind? Also I just found a dead fly on my office floor. Definitely want to just read the rest RIGHT NOW. 4mo
CatLass007 @Bookwormjillk JK Rowling plagiarized Neil Gaiman‘s Books of Magic, it wouldn‘t be surprising for her to plagiarize Bram Stoker. 4mo

mcctrish Dracula will be a bit harder to put down 4mo
Bookwormjillk So the kids will be okay now that Lucy is dead again? Go Vampire hunters! This is making me want to read Salem‘s Lot again. 4mo
See All 15 Comments
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish for sure, I feel like it will be way more dangerous! @Bookwormjillk I think so! 4mo
Clare-Dragonfly I don‘t think Van H‘s theory that everyone ever bitten by a vampire will also become a vampire makes any sense. Wouldn‘t the world be overridden with vampires by now? 4mo
dabbe It's interesting to note that Dracula really hasn't been in the last 10 or so chapters. He's been flitting at the window as a bat/wolf and was seen as himself by Harker, who recognized him, but that's it. He took center stage at the beginning and looks like he will at the end. And now without his newest bride, wonder who he'll go after next? 🤔 4mo
Cuilin @dabbe yes I wondered why it‘s called Dracula. (edited) 4mo
Cuilin That last part it‘s all a little one for all and all for one. 4mo
Cuilin @dabbe Methinks he may go for Mina. Watch out, Jonathan. 4mo
Bookwormjillk @dabbe good point! 4mo
dabbe @Cuilin 😂 4mo
dabbe @Cuilin If he does, she's got the army that Van Helsing is creating, right? However, look how well they did for Lucy. 🙄 4mo
rubyslippersreads @Clare-Dragonfly I think the victim has to die to become a vampire. 4mo
Clare-Dragonfly @rubyslippersreads From what he said, all the kids Lucy bit would have become vampires eventually, when they died. 4mo
