Mehso-so

Finished this #HitchToScreen pick.
I‘ll admit I almost bailed before we ever got on the train.
I‘m glad I stuck around because the story was interesting and I really wanted to know of Miss Froy‘s fate…or if she existed at all.
I must say I struggled with the writing style a bit. I have a question for everyone that I‘ll put in a spoiler below.
The movie was pretty different and I have a thought I‘ll put in the spoilers below as well.
#bookblanket

MaleficentBookDragon Did Iris have sunstroke or was she actually hit on the head? I was confused in the book. The movie made it much clearer. 📖 vs 🎥 (edited) 5d
MaleficentBookDragon I didn‘t mind the whole romance in the movie, or the ditching of the sisters, the pastor and his wife, or even the crazy spy angle. But what I hated most that they changed for the movie was that the MAN was the one to figure out that Miss Froy was actually the patient and got to rip the bandages off her. Not cool Hitchcock! Not cool. 😡 📖 vs 🎥 (edited) 5d
marleed I love the granny square. Are you creating squares for 2025? If so, I hope you post the quarter‘s worth at the end of March! 4d

Sorry everyone for getting so behind on #HitchToScreen ! It's been a rough few weeks. But I'm happy to announce our next buddy read is a favorite of mine, Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier.
The movie is amazing as well. Remember it's very casual. We have 6 weeks to read the book, just post a review & tag me when you're done. Anyone is welcome to join! If you'd like to be added or removed from the tag list, let me know. Happy reading!

JenlovesJT47 Thanks for posting! 🤗 7d

Clare-Dragonfly I read this (and watched the movie) just last year so I won‘t be reading it again but it‘s sooooo good! 1w

JenlovesJT47 @Clare-Dragonfly no worries! I read the book about 4 years ago but so I‘m gonna do a reread. It is SO good! 💚 1w
CrowCAH This is a great book and movie! I‘ll join the discussion, but I‘m not sure I‘ll make it a reread. I got a lot of other books in the docket. 1w
JenlovesJT47 @CrowCAH no worries, I understand! 💚 1w
Teresereading I‘d like to join 7d
TorieStorieS So I‘m going bonkers trying to find my copy! I was convinced that it had her with a green dress (trade paperback), but I guess I am confusing it with a different book??? Anyways, I‘m totally up for this! I can use an Audible credit… I just was so sure the lady in green was Rebecca! 5d
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS I dunno if you have overdrive but they have the audiobook on there. There are so many different covers! The library cover is a girl wearing black with her head down (kinda like like a ballerina!). Worst case scenario you could get it on Anna‘s Archive. Hope you can find your copy 🤞🏻🤗 5d
TorieStorieS I‘m definitely down for this! I‘ll make it happen!! 5d

I considered bailing on this during the first few chapters, but decided to stick it out until the title happened. I‘m so glad I did! The dull, frustrating first several chapters are important to set up why no one wants to listen to or help Iris. I figured out the mystery fairly early on but reading along to see how the characters would figure it out and the mental tortures Iris goes through along the way was very enjoyable. Movie is on Hoopla!

JenlovesJT47 I‘m so bad I didn‘t even get to this book yet! 😭 Glad you enjoyed it! 🤗 1w

The Wheel Spins aka The Lady Vanishes - this was a lot of fun! I've never seen the movie but would like to check it out. The MC wasn't very likeable but it's impossible not to sympathize with her distress. I liked how the overheard conversation between Hare and the professor, about the effectiveness of juries and reliability of witnesses, set a theme for how the journey would play out.

inthegreensandblues Thanks for selecting this book, @JenlovesJT47! I'm not sure I'd have ever picked it up if not for this buddy read. 1mo

The movie is probably my favorite of Hitchcock‘s & I enjoy the other movies & books it has inspired so much that our dog is named Owen after Danny Devito‘s character in Throw Momma From The Train, so I am thankful to @JenlovesJT47 for organizing the #HitchToScreen to finally get my copy off of my TBR! I didn‘t love the audio performance here and I think the tension would have been more pronounced physically reading it but still what a debut novel!

I finally finished Strangers On A Train for #HitchToScreen - I‘d give it a soft pick & I really wish Goodreads did half stars. The movie, imo, is a masterpiece, & this is one of the instances where I think the movie is better than the book. My biggest gripe is that it‘s too long & dragged a lot. Guy is much more sympathetic in the movie. By the end of the book I was rooting for no one. Still, it‘s a great premise for a book. 3.5⭐️

Clare-Dragonfly I feel like I would have been more interested in Guy‘s journey into darkness if I hadn‘t thought he basically sucked from the beginning. 🙃 2mo
JenlovesJT47 @Clare-Dragonfly have you seen the movie? I love Farley Granger and he is so likable in the movie. And Robert Walker who plays Bruno is amazing. I agree, I would have been more invested in the book if Guy wasn‘t so unlikable. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I haven‘t seen the movie, but hopefully I will now! 2mo
TorieStorieS I completely agree— the movie is definitely better! 2mo
