This book strives to reset our mindsets. Society teaches us that to be a “good” person/parent/spouse we should have a neat, clean house. The author suggests that a neat, clean house is not an issue of goodness or badness; it‘s a functional issue. We aren‘t meant to be the servant to house. It is supposed to serve us. With that change in mindset, the goal is no longer perfection but function. On days when parenting, chronic pain, work, etc keeps ⬇️

Texreader us from completing a chore list or just picking or cleaning up, then do just what you need to do to make your house function for you. If you are up to doing more, great! But let go of the moral self-talk that you are not a good person if the stove isn‘t wiped down, or you skip a load of laundry. The author provides numerous suggestions on how to tackle tasks. This is a good book that anyone who keeps home should read for their own wellbeing. 13h

I really like the last one. Good enough is perfect.

Sparklemn I love this! Thanks for sharing. 2w
Deblovestoread I love “resetting”. I reset a few kitchen cupboards yesterday. 😀 2w

lil1inblue This book is so simple, yet it was a lifesaver when I was dealing with an illness for several years. I cannot recommend it often enough! 2w

Care tasks are morally neutral. Being good or bad at them has nothing to do with being a good person, parent, man, woman, spouse, friend. Literally nothing. You are not a failure because you can‘t keep up with laundry. Laundry is morally neutral.

TheBookHippie So necessary to learn. 2w

Thanks for giving me grace to sit and read rather than thinking as I sit, “I should be doing this ...“

triplem80 I really appreciated this book...it enabled me to give myself grace, which can be so hard to do! 2w
GingerAntics I‘m seeing a lot of things that for some reason, by some crazy people, have been assigned moral value when they are not moral issues at all. Can we stop that? Who are these people? They are hurting everyone and ruining everything. 2w

An interesting look at tackling clutter and chaos in life. I loved the toothbrush theory as it makes so much sense. Really useful and gives you actual exercises to help get started. 4*

I don‘t usually seek out self help books, but this book helped me to start unpacking my belief that clean house = good person. It‘s not nearly that simple or easy.

Unraveling where I learned that also helped start me on a self examination journey that, I hope, has made me a better person.

#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day, and don‘t forget to tag me.

ChaoticMissAdventures I follow her on Tiktok, I really like how she focuses on cleanliness not being a moral issue. You are not a "bad person" if your home isn't spotless, that sort of thing. 2mo
TreenaReads I read a bunch of parenting books when my son was born, Generally, I don‘t get much out of them. 2mo
konlitsy I generally don't feel drawn to self-help books. Even when I attempt to read them, I usually only get through the first two chapters. For self-help, I sometimes listen to the Bhagavad Gita.

Kerrbearlib Oh wow, I need to read this. Cleaning has always been a struggle for me due to my ADHD & CPTSD. It‘s something I‘ve been deeply ashamed of and it‘s had a negative impact on my self-esteem. I‘m trying to unlearn the negative messages that were drilled into me (“You‘re lazy!” was a common one). Maybe a book like this would help. (edited) 2mo
BookmarkTavern @Kerrbearlib It helped me a lot. I especially loved the audiobook. It felt like sitting down with a friend. 2mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just what I needed to help motivate me to make my space work for myself and to help remove the shame around having a “messy” house or not keeping it clean enough 100% of the time, which makes me feel like a failure.

Short and fast paced. Recommended to me by a non-litsy friend.

I did not touch my Penman book this weekend.

“How to Keep House While Drowning“ was absolutely amazing. I feel seen-this book is written not only for those with ADHD, but those struggling with depression, anxiety, and daily pain. This is one of those books I want a copy of!

I bailed on the “Silence“ book. I laid it down and did everything but pick it up on Saturday-back it goes.

I will admit that I‘m not the person who this book is meant for as I‘m generally pretty good at keeping my house neat. That being said, I agree with her advice to start small like doing the dishes every day. I find her decluttering advice is more helpful so I like her other book just focused on that better. She does also get repetitive at times, which happens when you convert a blog to a book. Bonus pic is my boy Happy just loving the sun ☀️
