Giraffes? Giraffes! | Doris Haggis-On-Whey, Benny Haggis-On-Whey
post image

In my internet travels, I came across a story of the world‘s first spotless giraffe, Kipekee, who was born in Tennessee in 2023. Kipekee means unique in Swahili.

pretty kipekee,
the world‘s first spotless giraffe,
born in Tennessee. 🦒

Lady Into Fox | David Garnett

Pickpick

A fun little novella about a woman who suddenly turns into a fox, and how her husband manages. Author was part of the Bloomsbury Group.
Although very different in style and tone, reminded me a bit of the recent memoir Raising Hare.
Both suggest humans can learn a lot from wild animals.
Another prompt complete for #192025!

I enjoyed these delightfully weird short stories. The first three are longer and I loved two of them. The last half of the book is made up of 100 very short stories of different “apocalypses.” Appropriate reading for these times. It was dry, funny and absurd. Thanks to #TenBeforeTheEnd for motivating me to read this as it had been on my shelf for awhile. This was Book 7 for me.

ChaoticMissAdventures Book 7! Great job, love it when we finally pick up the book and it is worth it. 9mo

Book 6 for #TenBeforeTheEnd and another one I‘ve had on my shelf for at least a decade. It was interesting and a creative merging of two timelines and some magical realism, but I didn‘t love it. I realized this is by the author of a new book, which I do still want to read - The Most.

ChaoticMissAdventures ✅ great job! 9mo

There's no stopping the climate apocalypse now, let alone reversing it.

But hey, maybe bird flu will take half of us first.

“I'm equally sure, however, that I won't walk into a lamp-post while reading {literature}, like I did with {a legal thriller} all those years ago; you don't walk into lamp-posts when you're reading literary novels, do you?“

Sometimes when things feel sideways, it helps to focus on trying to make someone else smile. Worked on my #Litsylove Valentines cards for a Children‘s Hospital today. Thanks to @TieDyeDude for finding this one of four organizations for us. My cards look like the work of a toddler and I‘m totally fine with that 😂

Karisa I love this! Many senior centers love to get homemade Valentines cards too. I‘m having my sixth graders make some next week for a local care home‘s residents. 😊 2y

McSweeney‘s #71: Horror Stories is GORGEOUS and triple slipcased. It‘s just a beautiful thing. Stories by M.T. Anderson and Stephen Graham Jones (among many others) were almost secondary, if I‘m honest. ❤️🎃🎃🎃❤️

Some great essays and then some not so great ones. Feels kinda cozy when it‘s good, but Chabon sometimes seems to be pitching pearls from a lofty ivory tower and these are the “gimme a break” moments in the read.

When the author was 18 he killed a girl from his high school in a car accident. It was not his fault,he was neither drunk nor driving recklessly,it was bad luck. This book is his account of “half a life” lived with guilt&he tries to be honest&vulnerable.Even though he writes with sincerity,I couldn‘t connect with him, with what happened&neither with the victim.I‘m not sure if it‘s the writing or because of the trauma, but it feels cold&disconnected.
