Soft pick. I liked the mystery surrounding the reality show, but it was much less character focussed than the first novel. Ffion and Leo were a big focus in book 1 as was Ffion‘s family and that was absent here, so while it works as a mystery/procedural it‘s not what I expected from this installment.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Golden Age murder mystery. The characters are almost all over-the-top cariacatures, and as such, were hilarious. Gossip and judgment turns to murder and there‘s suspicion all around—and there‘s no shortage of witty dialogue and clever characterization along the way. This was my December #BookSpin (yes, another belated review!).

I hesitate to review this book only because there‘s so many complicated, unusual characters, whose characterization is imbued by the beauty of this VT farming country. It‘s 1969 & Dec.Warren moves to Bethany VT when offered a position with the state police Almost immediately an irascible farmer is found burned to death in his barn. Was suicide? Murder? An accident? As Warren delves into the investigation, assisted by his elderly enigmatic neighbor🔽

kspenmoll 🔼 he uncovers secrets & lies, some benign, some just skirting evil. 2w

Better than the first! I really liked Georgina and her relationship with Ffion. Kinda frustrated with Leo & Ffion. But the supporting characters were great and Macintosh does a great job making the setting come to life.

I decided to continue this series as I'm re- reading the whole thing with #InDeathLongReadathon with @StayCurious. This one is #57, which only tells you how popular they are as she keeps on writing them. This one deals with police suicide which is a big problem in the police force.
