I've read so many authors from #threelistthursday, just not the specific book that was chosen. 🤣
Random Thoughts
🩵 I was happy to see Jean Auel's The Clan of the Cave Bear on the list. The series is so good, but I don't see it on many lists.
🩵 I'm finally going to tackle Don Quixote in 2026.
🩵 A #bookishconfession: I've started Great Expectations 3 different times and never finished. I have no idea why. I liked what I read! 🫠
@dabbe

TheSpineView I enjoyed The Clan of the Cave Bear series too. 5mo
dabbe CLAN is now higher up on my TBR. I tried QUIXOTE but failed. 😖 Perhaps I'll try again. I totally understand re: GREAT EX. It took me a while to get past a LOT of descriptive stuff, but then the story just takes off! That one and BLEAK HOUSE are my favorites by Dickens. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💙📚💚 5mo
lil1inblue @dabbe Clan is so great, but I *loved* the second book, The Valley of the Horses. I'm starting the third book next month-ish. I really need to try Great Ex one more time. Perhaps a chapter a day type thing like Les Mis. That's how I'm hoping to do Quixote next year. Thanks for #tlt - it's such a fun exercise! 5mo
dabbe @lil1inblue I'll reread GREAT EX with you when you're ready and if you want! And TY! I try to make it fun! 😍 5mo

10/10. Very well written and gave a wonderful and interesting visualisation of life, love and humanity in the Stone Age.

I remember as a child and seeing The Earth's Children everywhere. I knew just by looking at the covers that they were going to be great reads. I just forgot about them. Thank goodness they are in my universe again. In fact, I can't wait to finish reading the series just to start again. This one, in particular, is the best at survival in the wild - the Ice Age wild.

Quest for Fire vibes
Extremely repetitive
Still, I liked this.. Why?
⭐️⭐️⭐️

I watched the movie adaptation of this book with my partner as I was reading the end, and honestly, I was more a fan of the movie ending than the book one.🤫
Despite the Multitude of repetitive descriptions throughout the book (WE GET IT), and the fantasy ideation of Clan Life 25,000+ years ago... I still find myself checking out Valley of Horses.. *sigh

reading.rainb0w Valley of the Horses was immediately disbanded after constantly reading about a certain character's, "throbbing member." No. Thanks. ?? #dnf 1y

I may end up hating this. It's been on my shelf awhile, and I've been ambivalent about reading it due to the author not actually knowing a damn thing about Indigenous folks/their culture. I'm on Chapter 3. 2 things have irked me thus far. But I do enjoy the imagery/atmosphere of what it would be like living on Earth 25,000+ or so years ago. If it gets too cringe, I'll Ban the Clan, but I'm of an open mind thus far.

reading.rainb0w Update: I hate that I'm so into this like WTFFFFF - can't Stand the ignorance/repetitive storytelling, but the hunter-gatherer lifestyle.. reading about medicinal plants and how they cooked food is just too easy to get lost in. Hate the characters, yet love reading about their world and survival 🙈 1y
